36 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, ² Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. ³ It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

⁴ Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book. ⁵ And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am ^[a]shut up; I cannot go into the house of Jehovah: ⁶ therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah in the ears of the people in Jehovah’s house upon ^[b]the fast-day; and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. ⁷ It may be ^[c]they will present their supplication before Jehovah, and will return every one from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Jehovah hath pronounced against this people. ⁸ And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of Jehovah in Jehovah’s house.

⁹ Now it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah. ¹⁰ Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Jehovah’s house, in the ears of all the people.

⁸ And at Lystra there sat a certain man, impotent in his feet, a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked. ⁹ The same heard Paul speaking: who, fastening his eyes upon him, and seeing that he had faith to be made whole, ¹⁰ said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped up and walked. ¹¹ And when the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. ¹² And they called Barnabas, ^[a]Jupiter; and Paul, ^[b]Mercury, because he was the chief speaker. ¹³ And the priest of Jupiter whose temple was before the city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the multitudes. ¹⁴ But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they rent their garments, and sprang forth among the multitude, crying out ¹⁵ and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like ^[c]passions with you, and bring you good tidings, that ye should turn from these vain things unto a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is: ¹⁶ who in the generations gone by suffered all the ^[d]nations to walk in their own ways. ¹⁷ And yet he left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness. ¹⁸ And with these sayings scarce restrained they the multitudes from doing sacrifice unto them.

³⁶ And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he entered into the Pharisee’s house, and ^[a]sat down to meat. ³⁷ And behold, a woman who was in the city, a sinner; and when she knew that he was ^[b]sitting at meat in the Pharisee’s house, she brought ^[c]an alabaster cruse of ointment, ³⁸ and standing behind at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and ^[d]kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. ³⁹ Now when the Pharisee that had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were ^[e]a prophet, would have perceived who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him, that she is a sinner. ⁴⁰ And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Teacher, say on. ⁴¹ A certain lender had two debtors: the one owed five hundred ^[f]shillings, and the other fifty. ⁴² When they had not wherewith to pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most? ⁴³ Simon answered and said, He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. ⁴⁴ And turning to the woman, he said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath wetted my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair. ⁴⁵ Thou gavest me no kiss: but she, since the time I came in, hath not ceased to ^[g]kiss my feet. ⁴⁶ My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but she hath anointed my feet with ointment. ⁴⁷ Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. ⁴⁸ And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. ⁴⁹ And they that ^[h]sat at meat with him began to say ^[i]within themselves, Who is this that even forgiveth sins? ⁵⁰ And he said unto the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
