Psalm 148-150

The Whole Creation Invoked to Praise the Lord.

148 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
Praise the Lord (A)from the heavens;
Praise Him (B)in the heights!
Praise Him, (C)all His angels;
Praise Him, (D)all His heavenly armies!
Praise Him, sun and moon;
Praise Him, all stars of light!
Praise Him, [c](E)highest heavens,
And the (F)waters that are above the heavens!
They are to praise the name of the Lord,
For (G)He commanded and they were created.
He has also (H)established them forever and ever;
He has made a (I)decree, and it will not pass away.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
(J)Sea monsters, and all the ocean (K)depths;
(L)Fire and hail, (M)snow and (N)clouds;
(O)Stormy wind, (P)fulfilling His word;
(Q)Mountains and all hills;
Fruit (R)trees and all cedars;
10 (S)Animals and all cattle;
(T)Crawling things and winged fowl;
11 (U)Kings of the earth and all peoples;
Rulers and all judges of the earth;
12 Both young men and virgins;
Old men and children.

13 They are to praise the name of the Lord,
For His (V)name alone is exalted;
His (W)majesty is above earth and heaven.
14 And He has (X)lifted up a horn for His people,
(Y)Praise for all His godly ones,
For the sons of Israel, a people (Z)near to Him.
[d]Praise [e]the Lord!

Israel Invoked to Praise the Lord.

149 [f]Praise [g]the Lord!
Sing a (AA)new song to the Lord,
And His praise (AB)in the congregation of the godly ones.
Israel shall be joyful in (AC)his Maker;
The sons of Zion shall rejoice in their (AD)King.
They shall praise His name with (AE)dancing;
They shall sing praises to Him with (AF)tambourine and lyre.
For the Lord (AG)takes pleasure in His people;
He will (AH)glorify the lowly with salvation.

The (AI)godly ones shall be jubilant in glory;
They shall (AJ)sing for joy on their beds.
The (AK)high praises of God shall be in their [h]mouths,
And a (AL)two-edged (AM)sword in their hands,
To (AN)execute vengeance on the nations,
And punishment on the peoples,
To bind their kings (AO)with chains,
And their (AP)dignitaries with shackles of iron,
To (AQ)execute against them the judgment written.
This is an (AR)honor for all His godly ones.
[i]Praise [j]the Lord!

A Psalm of Praise.

150 [k]Praise [l]the Lord!
Praise God in His (AS)sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty [m](AT)expanse.
Praise Him for His (AU)mighty deeds;
Praise Him according to His excellent (AV)greatness.

Praise Him with (AW)trumpet sound;
Praise Him with (AX)harp and lyre.
Praise Him with (AY)tambourine and dancing;
Praise Him with (AZ)stringed instruments and (BA)flute.
Praise Him with loud (BB)cymbals;
Praise Him with resounding cymbals.
(BC)Everything that has breath shall praise [n]the Lord.
[o]Praise [p]the Lord!

Psalm 114-115

God’s Rescue of Israel from Egypt.

114 When Israel went forth (A)from Egypt,
The house of Jacob from a people of a (B)foreign language,
Judah became (C)His sanctuary;
Israel, (D)His dominion.

The (E)sea looked and fled;
The (F)Jordan turned back.
The mountains (G)skipped like rams,
The hills, like lambs.
What (H)ails you, sea, that you flee?
Jordan, that you turn back?
Mountains, that you skip like rams?
Hills, like lambs?

(I)Tremble, earth, before the Lord,
Before the God of Jacob,
Who (J)turned the rock into a (K)pool of water,
The (L)flint into a fountain of water.

Heathen Idols Contrasted with the Lord.

115 (M)Not to us, Lord, not to us,
But (N)to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy, because of Your [a]truth.
(O)Why should the nations say,
(P)Where, then, is their God?”
But our (Q)God is in the heavens;
He (R)does whatever He pleases.
Their (S)idols are silver and gold,
The (T)work of human hands.
They have mouths, but they (U)cannot speak;
They have eyes, but they cannot see;
They have ears, but they cannot hear;
They have noses, but they cannot smell;
[b]They have hands, but they cannot feel;
[c]They have feet, but they cannot walk;
They cannot make a sound with their throat.
(V)Those who make them [d]will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.

(W)Israel, (X)trust in the Lord;
He is their (Y)help and their shield.
10 House of (Z)Aaron, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who [e](AA)fear the Lord, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord (AB)has been mindful of us; He will bless us.
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will (AC)bless those who [f]fear the Lord,
(AD)The small together with the great.
14 May the Lord (AE)increase you,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of the Lord,
(AF)Maker of heaven and earth.

16 The heavens are (AG)the heavens of the Lord,
But (AH)the earth He has given to the sons of mankind.
17 The (AI)dead do not praise [g]the Lord,
Nor do any who go down into (AJ)silence;
18 But as for us, we will (AK)bless [h]the Lord
From this time and forever.
[i]Praise [j]the Lord!

Job 11:1-9

Zophar Rebukes Job

11 Then Zophar the Naamathite responded,

“Shall a multitude of words go unanswered,
And a (A)talkative man be acquitted?
Shall your boasts silence people?
And will you (B)scoff, and no one rebuke?
For (C)you have said, ‘My teaching is pure,
And (D)I am innocent in your eyes.’
But if only God would speak,
And open His lips against you,
And show you the secrets of wisdom!
For sound wisdom [a](E)has two sides.
Know then that God [b]forgets part of (F)your guilt.

(G)Can you discover the depths of God?
Can you discover the limits of the Almighty?
They are as (H)high as [c]the heavens; what can you do?
Deeper than [d](I)Sheol; what can you know?
Its measurement is longer than the earth
And broader than the sea.

Job 11:13-20

13 (A)If you would (B)direct your heart rightly
And (C)spread out your hands to Him,
14 If wrongdoing is in your hand, (D)put it far away,
And do not let malice dwell in your tents;
15 Then, indeed, you could (E)lift up your face without moral blemish,
And you would be firmly established and (F)not fear.
16 For you would (G)forget your trouble;
Like (H)waters that have passed by, you would remember it.
17 Your [a]life would [b]be (I)brighter than noonday;
Darkness would be like the morning.
18 Then you would trust, because there is hope;
And you would look around and rest securely.
19 You would (J)lie down and none would disturb you,
And many would [c](K)flatter you.
20 But the (L)eyes of the wicked will fail,
And [d]there will (M)be no escape for them;
And their (N)hope is [e](O)to breathe their last.”

Revelation 5

The Scroll with Seven Seals

I saw [a]in the right hand of Him who (A)sat on the throne a [b](B)scroll written inside and on the back, (C)sealed up with seven seals. And I saw a (D)strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to break its seals?” And no one (E)in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it. Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. And one of the elders *said to me, “Stop weeping; behold, the (F)Lion that is (G)from the tribe of Judah, the (H)Root of David, has overcome so as to be able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

And I saw [c]between the throne (with the four living creatures) and (I)the elders a (J)Lamb standing, as if (K)slaughtered, having seven (L)horns and (M)seven eyes, which are [d](N)the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. And He came and took (O)the scroll out of the right hand of Him who (P)sat on the throne. When He had taken the scroll, the (Q)four living creatures and the (R)twenty-four elders (S)fell down before the (T)Lamb, each one holding a (U)harp and (V)golden bowls full of incense, which are the (W)prayers of the [e]saints. And they *sang a (X)new song, saying,

(Y)Worthy are You to take the scroll and to break its seals; for You were (Z)slaughtered, and You (AA)purchased people for God with Your blood from (AB)every tribe, language, people, and nation.

10 You have made them into a (AC)kingdom and (AD)priests to our God, and they will (AE)reign upon the earth.”

Angels Exalt the Lamb

11 Then I looked, and I heard the voices of many angels (AF)around the throne and the (AG)living creatures and the (AH)elders; and the number of them was [f](AI)myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice,

(AJ)Worthy is the (AK)Lamb that was (AL)slaughtered to receive power, wealth, wisdom, might, honor, glory, and blessing.”

13 And I heard (AM)every created thing which is in heaven, or on the earth, or under the earth, or on the sea, and all the things in them, saying,

“To Him who (AN)sits on the throne and to the (AO)Lamb (AP)be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion forever and ever.”

14 And the (AQ)four living creatures were saying, “(AR)Amen.” And the (AS)elders (AT)fell down and worshiped.

Matthew 5:1-12

The Sermon on the Mount; The Beatitudes

(A)Now when Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on (B)the [a]mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. And (C)He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,

[b](D)Blessed are the poor in spirit, for (E)theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are (F)those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

“Blessed are (G)the [c]gentle, for they will inherit the earth.

“Blessed are (H)those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.

“Blessed are (I)the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

“Blessed are (J)the pure in heart, for (K)they will see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for (L)they will be called sons of God.

10 “Blessed are those who have been (M)persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for (N)theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people (O)insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for (P)in this same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
