33 He turneth the floods to a wilderness, and the springs of waters into dryness,
34 And a fruitful land into [a]barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
35 Again he [b]turneth the wilderness into pools of water, and the dry land into water springs.
36 And there he placeth the hungry, and they build a city to dwell in,
37 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which bring forth fruitful [c]increase.
38 For he blesseth them, and they multiply exceedingly, and he diminisheth not their cattle.
39 [d]Again men are diminished, and brought low by oppression, evil and sorrow.
40 He poureth [e]contempt upon princes, and causeth them to err in desert places out of the way.
41 Yet he raiseth up the poor out of misery, and maketh him families like a flock of sheep.
42 The [f]righteous shall see it, and rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
43 Who is wise that he may observe these things? for they shall understand the loving kindness of the Lord.
108 This Psalm is composed of two other Psalms before the seven and fiftieth and the sixtieth. The matter here contained is, 1 That David giveth himself with heart and voice to praise the Lord, 7 and assureth himself of the promise of God concerning his kingdom over Israel, and his power against other nations: 11 Who though he seem to forsake us for a time, yet he alone will in the end cast down our enemies.

1 O God, mine heart is [g]prepared, so is [h]my tongue: I will sing and give praise.
2 Awake viol and harp, I will awake early.
3 I will praise thee, O Lord, among the [i]people, and I will sing unto thee among the nations.
4 For thy mercy is great above the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.
5 [j]Exalt thyself, O God, above the heavens, and let thy glory be upon all the earth,
6 That thy beloved may be delivered: [k]help with thy right hand and hear me.
7 God hath spoken in his [l]holiness: therefore I will rejoice, I shall divide Shechem and measure the valley of Succoth.
8 Gilead shall be mine, and Manasseh shall be mine: Ephraim also shall be the strength of mine head: Judah is my lawgiver.
9 (A)Moab shall be my washpot: over Edom will I cast out my shoe: upon Palestine will I triumph.
10 Who will lead me into the strong city? who will bring me unto Edom?
11 [m]Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst forsaken us, and didst not go forth, O God, with our armies?
12 Give us help against trouble: for vain is the help of man.
13 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he shall tread down our enemies.
33 1 He exhorteth good men to praise God, for that he hath not only created all things, and by his providence governeth the same, but also is faithful in his promises, 10 he understandeth man’s heart, and scattereth the counsel of the wicked, 16 so that no man can be preserved by any creature or man’s strength: by they, that put their confidence in his mercy, shall be preserved from all adversities.
1 Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for it [a]becometh upright men to be thankful.
2 Praise the Lord with harp: sing unto him with viol and [b]instrument of ten strings.
3 Sing unto him a new song: sing cheerfully with a loud voice.
4 For the [c]word of the Lord is righteous, and all his [d]works are faithful.
5 He [e]loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.
6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
7 He [f]gathereth the waters of the sea together as upon an heap, and layeth up the depths in his treasures.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all them that dwell in the world, fear him.
9 For he spake, and it was done: he commanded, and it [g]stood.
10 The Lord breaketh the [h]counsel of the heathen, and bringeth to nought the devices of the people.
11 The counsel of the Lord shall stand forever, and the thoughts of his heart throughout all ages.
12 Blessed is that nation, whose [i]God is the Lord: even the people that he hath chosen for his inheritance.
13 The Lord [j]looketh down from heaven, and beholdeth all the children of men.
14 From the habitation of his dwelling, he beholdeth all them that dwell in the earth.
15 He [k]fashioneth their hearts every one, and understandeth all their works.
16 The [l]King is not saved by the multitude of an host, neither is the mighty man delivered by great strength.
17 A horse is a vain help, and shall not deliver any by his great strength.
18 Behold, [m]the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, and upon them that trust in his mercy,
19 To deliver their souls from death, and to preserve them in famine.
20 [n]Our soul waiteth for the Lord: for he is our help and our shield.
21 Surely our heart shall rejoice in him, because we trusted in his holy Name.
22 Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we trusted in thee.
15 ¶ (A)But the Lord had revealed to Samuel [a]secretly (a day before Saul came) saying,
16 Tomorrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, him shalt thou anoint to be governor over my people Israel, that he may [b]save my people out of the hands of the Philistines; for I have looked upon my people, and their cry is come unto me.
17 When Samuel therefore saw Saul, the Lord answered him, See, this is the man whom I spake to thee of, he shall rule my people.
18 Then went Saul to Samuel in the midst of the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the Seer’s house is.
19 And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the Seer; go up before me unto the high place; for ye shall eat with me today, and tomorrow I will let thee go, and will tell thee all that is in thine [c]heart.
20 And as for thine asses that were lost three days ago, care not for them: for they are found: and [d]on whom is set all the desire of Israel? is it not upon thee, and on all thy father’s house?
21 ¶ But Saul answered, and said, Am not I the son of Benjamin of the smallest tribe of Israel? and my family is the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin. Wherefore then speakest thou so to me?
22 And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the [e]chamber, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden: which were about thirty persons.
23 And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring forth the portion which I gave thee, and whereof I said unto thee, Keep it with thee.
24 And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was [f]upon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold, that which is left, set it before thee, and eat: for hitherto hath it been kept for thee, saying, Also I [g]have called the people. So Saul did eat with Samuel that day.
25 And when they were come down from the high place into the city, he communed with Saul upon the top of the house.
26 And when they arose early about the spring of the day, Samuel called Saul to the [h]top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out, both he, and Samuel.
27 And when they were come down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant go before us, (and he went) but stand thou still now, that I may show thee [i]the word of God.
10 1 Saul is anointed King by Samuel. 9 God changeth Saul’s heart, and he prophesieth. 17 Samuel assembleth the people, and showeth them their sins. 21 Saul is chosen King by lot. 25 Samuel writeth the King’s office.
1 Then Samuel took a vial of [j]oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Hath not the Lord anointed thee to be governor over his inheritance?
30 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the (A)wilderness of mount Sinai, an [a]Angel of the Lord in a flame of fire, in a bush.
31 And when Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to consider it, the voice of the Lord came unto him, saying,
32 I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold it.
33 Then the Lord said to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest, is holy ground.
34 I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people, which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them: and now come, and I will send thee into Egypt.
35 This Moses whom they forsook, saying, Who made thee a prince and a judge? the same God sent for a prince, and a deliverer by the [b]hand of the Angel which appeared to him in the bush.
36 He (B)brought them out, doing wonders, and miracles in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness (C)forty years.
37 [c]This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, (D)A Prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you, even of your brethren, like unto me: him shall ye hear.
38 (E)This is he that was in the Congregation, in the wilderness with the Angel, which spake to him in mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received the lively oracles to give unto us.
39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but refused, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
40 Saying unto Aaron, (F)Make us gods that may go before us: for we know not what is become of this Moses that brought us out of the land of Egypt.
41 And they made a [d]calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
42 Then God turned himself away, and [e]gave them up to serve the [f]host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the Prophets, (G)O house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
43 And ye [g]took up the Tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures, which ye made to worship them: therefore I will carry you away beyond Babylon.
39 ¶ (A)And he came out, and went (as he was wont) to the mount of Olives: and his disciples also followed him.
40 (B)[a]And when he came to the place, he said to them, Pray, lest ye enter into tentation.
41 [b]And he was drawn aside from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, If thou wilt, take away this cup from me: nevertheless, not my will, but thine be done.
43 And there appeared an Angel unto him from heaven, comforting him.
44 But being in an [c]agony, he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was like [d]drops of blood, trickling down to the ground.
45 [e]And he rose up from prayer, and came to his disciples, and found them sleeping for heaviness.
46 And he said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into tentation.
47 ¶ (C)[f]And while he yet spake, behold, a company, and he that was called Judas one of the twelve, went before them, and came near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48 And Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
49 [g]Now when they which were about him, saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
50 And one of them smote a servant of the high Priest, and struck off his right ear.
51 Then Jesus answered, and said, Suffer them thus far: and he touched his ear, and healed him.
