20 A prayer of the people unto God, that it would please him to hear their king and receive his sacrifice, which he offered before he went to battle against the Ammonites.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.
1 The [a]Lord hear thee in the day of trouble: the [b]Name of the God of Jacob defend thee:
2 Send thee help from the Sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion.
3 Let him remember all thine offerings, and [c]turn thy burnt offerings into ashes. Selah.
4 And grant thee according to thine heart, and fulfill all thy purpose:
5 That we may rejoice in thy [d]salvation, and set up the banner in the Name of our God, when the Lord shall perform all thy petitions.
6 Now [e]know I that the Lord will help his anointed, and will hear him from his [f]Sanctuary, by the mighty help of his right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the Name of the Lord our God.
8 [g]They are brought down and fallen, but we are risen, and stand upright.
9 Save Lord: [h]Let the King hear us in the day that we call.
21 1 David in the person of the people praiseth God for the victory, attributing it to God, and not to the strength of man. Wherein the holy Ghost directeth the faithful to Christ, who is the perfection of this kingdom.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.
1 The King shall [i]rejoice in thy strength, O Lord: yea how greatly shall he rejoice in thy salvation?
2 Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and hast not denied him the request of his lips. Selah.
3 For thou [j]didst prevent him with liberal blessings, and didst set a crown of pure gold upon his head.
4 [k]He asked life of thee, and thou gavest him a long life forever and ever.
5 His glory is great in thy salvation: dignity and honor hast thou laid upon him.
6 For thou hast set him as [l]blessings forever: thou hast made him glad with the joy of thy countenance.
7 Because the king trusteth in the Lord, and in the mercy of the most high, he shall not slide.
8 [m]Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies, and thy right hand shall find out them that hate thee.
9 Thou shalt make them like a fiery oven in time of thine anger: the Lord shall destroy them in his [n]wrath, and the fire shall devour them.
10 Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from the children of men.
11 For they [o]intended evil against thee, and imagined mischief, but they shall not prevail.
12 Therefore shalt thou put them [p]apart, and the strings of thy bow shalt thou make ready against their faces.
13 [q]Be thou exalted, O Lord, in thy strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.
110 1 David prophesieth of the power and everlasting kingdom given to Christ, 4 and of his Priesthood, which should put an end to the Priesthood of Levi.
A Psalm of David.
1 The [a]Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
2 The Lord shall send the rod of thy power out of [b]Zion: be thou ruler in the midst of thine enemies.
3 Thy people shall come willingly at the time of assembling [c]thine army in holy beauty: the youth of thy womb shall be as the morning dew.
4 The Lord sware, and will not repent, Thou art a Priest forever, after the order of [d]Melchizedek.
5 The Lord that is at thy right hand, shall wound kings in the day of his wrath.
6 He shall be judge among the heathen: he shall fill all with dead bodies, and smite the [e]head over great countries.
7 He shall [f]drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up his head.
116 1 David being in great danger of Saul in the desert of M[…], perceiving the great and inestimable love of God toward him, magnifieth such great mercies, 13 and protesteth that he will be thankful for the same.
1 I [a]love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my prayers.
2 For he hath inclined his ear unto me, when I did call upon him [b]in my days.
3 When the snares of death compassed me, and the griefs of the grave caught me: When I found trouble and sorrow.
4 Then I called upon the Name of the Lord, saying, I beseech thee, O Lord, deliver my soul.
5 The Lord is [c]merciful and righteous, and our God is full of compassion.
6 The Lord preserveth the simple: I was in misery, and he saved me.
7 Return unto thy rest, O [d]my soul: for the Lord hath been beneficial unto thee,
8 Because thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
9 I shall [e]walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
10 [f]I believed, therefore did I speak: for I was sore troubled.
11 I said in my [g]fear, All men are liars.
12 What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?
13 I will [h]take the cup of salvation, and call upon the Name of the Lord.
14 I will pay my vows unto the Lord, even now in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the [i]death of his Saints.
16 Behold, Lord: for I am thy servant, I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast broken my bonds.
17 I will offer to thee a sacrifice of praise, and will call upon the Name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my [j]vows unto the Lord, even now in the presence of all his people,
19 In the courts of the Lord’s house, even in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the Lord.
117 1 He exhorteth the Gentiles to praise God, because he hath accomplished as well to them as to the Jews, the promise of life everlasting by Jesus Christ.
1 All (A)nations, praise ye the Lord: all ye people, praise him.
2 For his loving kindness is great toward us, and the [k]truth of the Lord endureth forever. Praise ye the Lord.
8 And in the fifth month, and [a]seventh day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzaradan [b]chief steward and servant of the king of Babylon, to Jerusalem,
9 And burnt the house of the Lord, and the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the great houses burnt he with fire.
10 And all the army of the Chaldeans that were with the chief steward, brake down the walls of Jerusalem round about.
11 And the rest of the people that were left in the city, and those that were fled and [c]fallen to the king of Babylon, with the remnant of the multitude, did Nebuzaradan chief steward carry away captive.
12 But the chief steward left of the poor of the land to dress the vines, and to till the land.
22 (A)Howbeit, there remained people in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon left, and made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan ruler over them.
23 Then when all the captains of the host and their men heard, that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, to wit, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan the son of Careah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of Maachathi, they and their men.
24 And Gedaliah [a]sware to them, and to their men, and said unto them, Fear not to be the servants of the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and ye shall be well.
25 (B)But in the seventh month Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the king’s seed, came, and ten men with him, and smote Gedaliah, and he died, and so did he the Jews, and the Chaldeans that were with him at Mizpah.
26 Then all the people both small and great, and the captains of the army arose, and came to [b]Egypt: for they were afraid of the Chaldeans.
12 ¶ [a]Now if it be preached, that Christ is risen from the dead, how say some among you, that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 [b]For if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
14 [c]And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
15 And we are found also false witnesses of God: for we have testified of God, that he hath raised up Christ: whom he hath not raised up, if so be the dead be not raised.
16 [d]For if the dead be not raised, then is Christ not raised.
17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain: [e]ye are [f]yet in your sins.
18 [g]And so they which are asleep in Christ, are perished.
19 [h]If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most miserable.
20 [i]But now is Christ risen from the dead, [j]and was made the (A)[k]firstfruits of them that slept.
21 [l]For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be [m]made alive.
23 [n]But every man in his (B)own order: the firstfruits is Christ, afterward, they that are of Christ, at his coming shall rise again.
24 [o]Then shall be the [p]end, when he hath delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he hath put down [q]all rule, and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign (C)till he hath put all his enemies [r]under his feet.
26 The [s]last enemy that shall be destroyed, is death.
27 (D)For he hath put down all things under his feet. (And when he saith that all things are subdued to him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put down all things under him.)
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, [t]then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him, that did subdue all things under him, that [u]God may be all in all.
29 [v]Else what shall they do which are baptized [w]for dead? if the dead rise not at all, why are they then baptized for dead?
7 [a]And as they departed, Jesus began to speak unto the multitude of John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? a reed shaken with the wind?
8 But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold they that wear soft clothing, are in kings’ houses.
9 But what went ye out to see? A Prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and more than a Prophet.
10 For this is he of whom it is written, (A)Behold, I send my messenger before thy face which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11 Verily I say unto you, Among them which are begotten of women, arose there not a greater than John Baptist, notwithstanding, he that is the least in the [b]kingdom of heaven, is greater than he.
12 And from (B)the time of John Baptist hitherto, the kingdom of God suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
13 For all the Prophets and the Law [c]prophesied unto John.
14 And if ye will receive it, this is (C)that Elijah, which was to come.
15 ¶ He that hath ears to hear let him hear.
