Psalm 95

Praise to the Lord and Warning against Unbelief.

95 Come, let’s (A)sing for joy to the Lord,
Let’s shout joyfully to (B)the rock of our salvation.
Let’s (C)come before His presence (D)with a song of thanksgiving,
Let’s shout joyfully to Him (E)in songs with instruments.
For the Lord is a (F)great God
And a great King (G)above all gods,
In whose hand are the (H)depths of the earth,
The peaks of the mountains are also His.
[a]The sea is His, for it was He (I)who made it,
And His hands formed the dry land.

Come, let’s (J)worship and bow down,
Let’s (K)kneel before the Lord our (L)Maker.
For He is our God,
And (M)we are the people of His [b](N)pasture and the sheep of His hand.
(O)Today, [c]if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as at [d](P)Meribah,
As on the day of [e](Q)Massah in the wilderness,
“When your fathers (R)put Me to the test,
They tested Me, though they had seen My work.
10 For (S)forty years I was disgusted with that generation,
And said they are a people who err in their heart,
And they do not know My ways.
11 Therefore I (T)swore in My anger,
They certainly shall not enter My (U)rest.”

Psalm 88

A Petition to Be Saved from Death.

A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. For the music director; according to Mahalath Leannoth. A [a]Maskil of Heman [b]the Ezrahite.

88 Lord, the (A)God of my salvation,
I have (B)cried out by day and in the night before You.
Let my prayer (C)come before You;
(D)Incline Your ear to my cry!
For my (E)soul has [c]had enough troubles,
And (F)my life has approached [d]Sheol.
I am counted among those who (G)go down to the pit;
I have become like a man (H)without strength,
[e]Abandoned (I)among the dead,
Like the slain who lie in the grave,
Whom You no longer remember,
And they are (J)cut off from Your hand.
You have put me in (K)the lowest pit,
In (L)dark places, in the (M)depths.
Your wrath (N)has rested upon me,
And You have afflicted me with (O)all Your waves. Selah
You have removed (P)my acquaintances far from me;
You have made me an [f](Q)object of loathing to them;
I am (R)shut up and cannot go out.
My (S)eye grows dim from misery;
I have (T)called upon You every day, Lord;
I have (U)spread out my [g]hands to You.

10 Will You perform wonders for the dead?
Or will (V)the departed spirits rise and praise You? Selah
11 Will Your graciousness be declared in the grave,
Your faithfulness in [h]Abaddon?
12 Will Your wonders be made known in the (W)darkness?
And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

13 But I, Lord, have cried out (X)to You for help,
And (Y)in the morning my prayer comes before You.
14 Lord, why (Z)do You reject my soul?
Why do You (AA)hide Your face from me?
15 I was miserable and (AB)about to die from my youth on;
I suffer (AC)Your terrors; I grow weary.
16 Your (AD)burning anger has passed over me;
Your terrors have [i](AE)destroyed me.
17 They have (AF)surrounded me (AG)like water all day long;
They have (AH)encircled me altogether.
18 You have removed (AI)lover and friend far from me;
My acquaintances are in a hiding place.

Psalm 91-92

Security of One Who Trusts in the Lord.

91 One who dwells in the (A)shelter of the Most High
Will lodge in the (B)shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My (C)refuge and my (D)fortress,
My God, in whom I (E)trust!”
For it is He who rescues you from the (F)net of the trapper
And from the deadly (G)plague.
He will (H)cover you with His pinions,
And (I)under His wings you may take refuge;
His (J)faithfulness is a (K)shield and wall.

You (L)will not be afraid of the (M)terror by night,
Or of the (N)arrow that flies by day;
Of the (O)plague that [a]stalks in darkness,
Or of the (P)destruction that devastates at noon.
A thousand may fall at your side
And ten thousand at your right hand,
But (Q)it shall not approach you.
You will only look on with your eyes
And (R)see the retaliation against the wicked.
[b]For you have made the Lord, (S)my refuge,
The Most High, (T)your dwelling place.
10 (U)No evil will happen to you,
Nor will any plague come near your [c]tent.

11 For He will give (V)His angels orders concerning you,
To protect you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will (W)lift you up,
So that you do not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will (X)walk upon the lion and cobra,
You will trample the young lion and the [d]serpent.

14 (Y)Because he has loved Me, I will save him;
I will (Z)set him securely on high, because he has (AA)known My name.
15 He will (AB)call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in [e]trouble;
I will rescue him and (AC)honor him.
16 I will satisfy him with [f]a (AD)long life,
And [g](AE)show him My salvation.”

Praise for the Lords Goodness.

A Psalm, a Song for the Sabbath day.

92 It is (AF)good to give thanks to the Lord
And to (AG)sing praises to Your name, Most High;
To (AH)declare Your goodness in the morning
And Your (AI)faithfulness by [h]night,
[i]With the (AJ)ten-stringed lute and [j]with the (AK)harp,
[k]With resounding music on the (AL)lyre.
For You, Lord, have made me joyful by [l]what You (AM)have done,
I will (AN)sing for joy over the (AO)works of Your hands.

How (AP)great are Your works, Lord!
Your [m](AQ)thoughts are very (AR)deep.
A (AS)stupid person has no knowledge,
Nor does a (AT)foolish person understand this:
When the wicked (AU)sprouted up like grass
And all (AV)who did injustice flourished,
It was only that they might be (AW)destroyed forevermore.
But You, Lord, are (AX)on high forever.
For, behold, Your enemies, Lord,
For, behold, (AY)Your enemies will perish;
All who do injustice will be (AZ)scattered.

10 But You have exalted my (BA)horn like that of the wild ox;
I have [n]been (BB)anointed with fresh oil.
11 And my eye has (BC)looked at my enemies,
My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me.
12 The (BD)righteous person will [o]flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a (BE)cedar in Lebanon.
13 (BF)Planted in the house of the Lord,
They will flourish (BG)in the courtyards of our God.
14 They will still [p](BH)yield fruit in advanced age;
They will be [q]full of sap and very green,
15 To [r]declare that (BI)the Lord is just;
He is my (BJ)rock, and there is (BK)no malice in Him.

Jeremiah 11:1-8

The Broken Covenant

11 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, (A)Hear the words of this (B)covenant, and speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and say to them, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: “(C)Cursed is the one who does not obey the words of this covenant which I commanded your forefathers on the (D)day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the (E)iron furnace, saying, ‘(F)Listen to My voice, and [a]do according to all that I command you; so you shall be (G)My people, and I will be your God,’ in order to confirm the (H)oath which I swore to your forefathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day.”’” Then I replied, “(I)Amen, Lord.”

And the Lord said to me, “(J)Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, ‘(K)Hear the words of this covenant and (L)do them. For I solemnly (M)warned your fathers on the (N)day I brought them up from the land of Egypt, even to this day, (O)warning them persistently, saying, “(P)Listen to My voice.” Yet they (Q)did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in the stubbornness of their evil heart, each one of them; therefore I brought on them all the (R)words of this covenant which I commanded them to do, but they did not.’”

Jeremiah 11:14-20

14 “So as for you, (A)do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them; for I will (B)not listen when they call to Me because of their disaster.

15 What right has My (C)beloved in My house
When (D)she has carried out many evil schemes?
Can the sacrificial flesh take away from you your disaster,
[a]So that you can rejoice?”
16 The Lord named you
“A (E)green olive tree, beautiful in fruit and form”;
With the (F)noise of a great [b]tumult
He has (G)set fire to it,
And its branches are worthless.

17 The Lord of armies, who (H)planted you, has (I)pronounced evil against you because of the evil of the house of Israel and the house of Judah, which they have [c]done to provoke Me by [d](J)offering sacrifices to Baal.

Plots against Jeremiah

18 Moreover, the Lord (K)made it known to me and I knew it;
Then You showed me their deeds.
19 But I was like a gentle (L)lamb led to the slaughter;
And I did not know that they had (M)devised plots against me, saying,
“Let’s destroy the tree with its [e]fruit,
And (N)let’s cut him off from the (O)land of the living,
So that his (P)name will no longer be remembered.”
20 But, Lord of armies, who (Q)judges righteously,
Who (R)puts the [f]feelings and the heart to the test,
Let me see Your vengeance on them,
For to You I have [g]committed my cause.

Romans 6:1-11

Believers Are Dead to Sin, Alive to God

(A)What shall we say then? Are we to (B)continue in sin so that grace may increase? [a](C)Far from it! How shall we who (D)died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been (E)baptized into (F)Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been (G)buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was (H)raised from the dead through the (I)glory of the Father, so we too may walk in (J)newness of life. For (K)if we have become [b]united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be [c]in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our (L)old [d]self was (M)crucified with Him, in order that our (N)body of sin might be [e]done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for (O)the one who has died is [f]freed from sin.

Now (P)if we have died with Christ, we believe that (Q)we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been (R)raised from the dead, [g]is never to die again; (S)death no longer is master over Him. 10 For [h]the death that He died, He died to sin once for all time; but [i]the life that He lives, He lives to [j]God. 11 So you too, consider yourselves to be (T)dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

John 8:33-47

33 They answered Him, “(A)We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, (B)everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 Now (C)the slave does not remain in the house forever; (D)the son does remain forever. 36 So if the Son (E)sets you free, you really will be free. 37 I know that you are (F)Abraham’s descendants; yet (G)you are seeking to kill Me, because My word [a]has no place in you. 38 I speak of the things which I have seen [b]with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from (H)your father.”

39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is (I)our father.” Jesus *said to them, (J)If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham. 40 But as it is, (K)you are seeking to kill Me, a Man who has (L)told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41 You are doing the deeds of (M)your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born as a result of sexual immorality; (N)we have one Father: God.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, (O)you would love Me, (P)for I came forth from God and am here; for I have (Q)not even come [c]on My own, but [d](R)He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand [e](S)what I am saying? It is because you cannot (T)listen to My word. 44 (U)You are of (V)your father the devil, and (W)you want to do the desires of your father. (X)He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because (Y)there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells [f]a lie, he (Z)speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of [g]lies. 45 But because (AA)I say the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If (AB)I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 (AC)The one who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”
