Psalm 66-67

Praise God for Answering Prayers

For the director of music. A song of praise.

66 Everything on earth, shout with joy to God!
Sing about his glory!
    Make his praise glorious!
Say to God, “Your works are amazing!
    Your power is great.
    Your enemies fall before you.
All the earth worships you.
    They sing praises to you.
They sing praises to your name.” Selah

Come and see what God has done.
See what amazing things he has done for people.
He turned the sea into dry land.
The people crossed the river on foot.
So let us rejoice because of what he did.
He rules forever with his power.
He keeps his eye on the nations.
So people should not turn against him. Selah

You people, praise our God.
    Loudly sing his praise.
He protects our lives
and does not let us be defeated.
10 God, you have tested us.
You have purified us like silver.
11 You let us be trapped.
You put a heavy load on us.
12 You let our enemies walk on our heads.
We went through fire and flood.
But you brought us to a place with good things.

13 I will come to your Temple with burnt offerings.
I will give you what I promised.
14 I promised to give you these things
    when I was in trouble.
15 I will bring you offerings of fat animals.
And I will offer male sheep, bulls and goats. Selah

16 All of you who fear God, come and listen.
I will tell you what he has done for me.
17 I cried out to him with my mouth.
I praised him with my tongue.
18 If I had known of any sin in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened to me.
19 But God has listened.
    He has heard my prayer.
20 Praise God.
He did not ignore my prayer.
He did not hold back his love from me.

Everyone Should Praise God

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A song of praise.

67 God, have mercy on us and bless us.
Show your kindness to us. Selah
Then the world will learn your ways.
All nations will learn that you can save.

God, the people should praise you.
    All people should praise you.
The nations should be glad and sing
    because you judge people fairly.
You guide all the nations on earth. Selah
God, the people should praise you.
    All people should praise you.

The land has given its crops.
    God, our God, blesses us.
God blesses us
so people to the ends of the earth will fear him.

Ezekiel 3:4-11

Then the Lord said to me, “Human being, go to the people of Israel. Speak my words to them. You are not being sent to people whose speech you can’t understand. Their language is not difficult. You are being sent to Israel. You are not being sent to many nations whose speech you can’t understand. The language of Israel is not difficult. You are not being sent to people whose words you cannot understand. If I had sent you to them, they would have listened to you. But the people of Israel are not willing to listen to you. This is because they are not willing to listen to me. Yes, all the people of Israel are stubborn and will not obey. See, I have made you as stubborn as they are. You will be as hard as they are. I have made you as hard as a diamond, harder than stone. Don’t be afraid of them. Don’t be frightened by them. They are a people who turn against me.”

10 Also, the Lord said to me, “Human being, believe all the words that I will speak to you. And listen carefully. 11 Go to the captives, your people. And speak to them, whether they listen or not. Tell them, ‘The Lord God says this.’”

Acts 10:34-44

Peter’s Speech

34 Peter began to speak: “I really understand now that to God every person is the same. 35 God accepts anyone who worships him and does what is right. It is not important what country a person comes from. 36 You know that God has sent his message to the people of Israel. That message is the Good News that peace has come through Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Lord of all people! 37 You know what has happened all over Judea. It began in Galilee after John[a] preached to the people about baptism. 38 You know about Jesus from Nazareth. God made him the Christ by giving him the Holy Spirit and power. You know how Jesus went everywhere doing good. He healed those who were ruled by the devil, for God was with Jesus. 39 We saw all the things that Jesus did in Judea and in Jerusalem. But they killed him by nailing him to a cross. 40 Yet, on the third day, God raised Jesus to life and caused him to be seen. 41 But he was not seen by all the people. Only the witnesses that God had already chosen saw him, and we are those witnesses. We ate and drank with him after he was raised from death. 42 He told us to preach to the people and to tell them that he is the one whom God chose to be the judge of the living and the dead. 43 Everyone who believes in Jesus will be forgiven. God will forgive his sins through Jesus. All the prophets say this is true.”

Non-Jews Receive the Holy Spirit

44 While Peter was still saying this, the Holy Spirit came down on all those who were listening.

Psalm 118

Thanksgiving for Victory

118 Thank the Lord because he is good.
    His love continues forever.
Let the people of Israel say,
    “His love continues forever.”
Let the family of Aaron say,
    “His love continues forever.”
Let those who fear the Lord say,
    “His love continues forever.”

I was in trouble. So I called to the Lord.
The Lord answered me and set me free.
I will not be afraid because the Lord is with me.
People can’t do anything to me.
The Lord is with me to help me.
I will see my enemies defeated.
It is better to trust the Lord
    than to trust people.
It is better to trust the Lord
    than to trust princes.

10 All the nations surrounded me.
But I defeated them in the name of the Lord.
11 They surrounded me on every side.
But with the Lord’s power, I defeated them.
12 They surrounded me like a swarm of bees.
But they died as quickly as thorns burn.
By the Lord’s power, I defeated them.
13 They chased me until I was almost defeated.
    But the Lord helped me.
14 The Lord gives me strength and makes me sing.
    He has saved me.

15 Shouts of joy and victory
come from the tents of those who do right:
“The Lord has done powerful things.”
16 The power of the Lord has won the victory.
With his power the Lord has done mighty things.

17 I will not die, but live.
And I will tell what the Lord has done.
18 The Lord has taught me a hard lesson.
But he did not let me die.

19 Open for me the Temple gates.
Then I will come in and thank the Lord.
20 This is the Lord’s gate.
Only those who are good may enter it.
21 Lord, I thank you for answering me.
    You have saved me.

22 The stone that the builders did not want
    became the cornerstone.
23 The Lord did this,
and it is wonderful to us.
24 This is the day that the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad today!

25 Please, Lord, save us.
    Please, Lord, give us success.
26 God bless the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
We bless all of you from the Temple of the Lord.
27 The Lord is God.
And he has shown kindness to us.
With branches in your hands, join the feast.
Come to the corners of the altar.

28 You are my God, and I will thank you.
You are my God, and I will praise your greatness.

29 Thank the Lord because he is good.
    His love continues forever.

John 21:15-22

Jesus Talks to Peter

15 When they finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John do you love me more than these?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

17 A third time he said, “Simon son of John do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” Peter said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you!”

He said to him, “Take care of my sheep. 18 I tell you the truth. When you were younger, you tied your own belt and went where you wanted. But when you are old, you will put out your hands and someone else will tie them. They will take you where you don’t want to go.” 19 (Jesus said this to show how Peter would die to give glory to God.) Then Jesus said to Peter, “Follow me!”

20 Peter turned and saw that the follower Jesus loved was walking behind them. (This was the follower who had leaned against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who will turn against you?”) 21 When Peter saw him behind them he asked Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”

22 Jesus answered, “Perhaps I want him to live until I come back. That should not be important to you. You follow me!”
