Psalm 111-112

Praise to God for His Work and Commands

111 Praise Yah![a]
I will give thanks to Yahweh with all my heart,
in the assembly of the upright and the congregation.
The works of Yahweh are great,
studied[b] by all who delight in them.
Full of splendor and majesty is his work,
and his righteousness endures forever.
He has made his wonders to be remembered;[c]
Yahweh is gracious and compassionate.
He gives food to those who fear him;
he remembers his covenant forever.
He has declared the power of his works for his people,
by giving to them the inheritance of the nations.
The works of his hands are faithfulness and justice;
all his precepts are reliable.
They are sustained forever and ever,
done with faithfulness and uprightness.
He has sent redemption to his people;
he has commanded his covenant forever;
holy and fearful is his name.
10 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom;
all who do them[d] have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever.

The Path of the Righteous and the Path of the Wicked

112 Praise Yah![e]
Blessed is the man who fears Yahweh;
he takes great delight in his commands.
His descendants[f] will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.
His light rises in the darkness for the upright;
he is gracious and compassionate and righteous.
It goes well for a man who is gracious and lends,
who conducts his business properly.[g]
For he will not be shaken forever;
the righteous will be remembered forever.[h]
He is not afraid of bad news;
his heart is steadfast, secure[i] in Yahweh.
His heart is sustained; he will not be afraid,
until he looks in triumph on his enemies.
He gives lavishly[j] to the needy;
his righteousness endures forever.
His horn rises high in honor.
10 The wicked[k] sees it and is vexed.
He gnashes his teeth and becomes weak.[l]
The desire of the wicked[m] perishes.

Hebrews 11:32-12:2

32 And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, accomplished justice, obtained what was promised, shut the mouths of lions, 34 extinguished the effectiveness of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong from weakness, became mighty in battle, put to flight enemy battle lines. 35 Women received back their dead by resurrection. But others were tortured, not accepting release, in order that they might gain a better resurrection. 36 And others experienced mocking and flogging[a], and in addition bonds and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawed in two, they died by murder with a sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins, impoverished, afflicted, mistreated, 38 of whom the world was not worthy, wandering about on deserts and mountains and in caves and in holes in the ground. 39 And although they[b] all were approved[c] through their faith, they did not receive what was promised, 40 because[d] God had provided something better for us, so that they would not be made perfect without us.

The Example of Jesus’ Suffering

12 Therefore, since[e] we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, putting aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us[f], let us run with patient endurance the race that has been set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the originator and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Psalm 148

Let All Creation Praise Yahweh

148 Praise Yah.[a]
Praise Yahweh from the heavens;
praise him in the heights.
Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his hosts.[b]
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all stars of light.
Praise him, highest heavens,[c]
and waters above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of Yahweh,
because he commanded and they were created.
And he put them in place forever and ever,
by a decree he gave that will not pass away.
Praise Yahweh from the earth—
great sea creatures and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and cloud,[d]
stormy wind doing his bidding,[e]
the mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars,
10 beasts and all cattle,[f]
creeping things and flying birds,[g]
11 kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all judges of the earth,
12 young men and young women as well,
the old together with the young—
13 let them praise the name of Yahweh,
because his name alone is is exalted.
His splendor is above earth and heavens.
14 And he has raised high a horn for his people,
praise for all his faithful—
for the children of Israel,
a people close to him.
Praise Yah.[h]

Psalm 150

Let Everything Praise Yahweh

150 Praise Yah.[a]
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty firmament.
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to the abundance of his greatness.
Praise him with blast of horn;
praise him with harp and lyre.
Praise him with tambourine and dancing;
praise him with strings and flute.
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with clashing cymbals.
Every breathing thing,
let it praise Yah.[b]
Praise Yah.[c]

Revelation 21:1-4

The New Heaven, New Earth, and New Jerusalem

21 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea did not exist any longer. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,

“Behold, the dwelling of God is with humanity,
and he will take up residence with them,
and they will be his people
and God himself will be with them.[a]
And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death will not exist any longer,
and[b] mourning or wailing or pain will not exist any longer.
The former things[c] have passed away.”

Revelation 21:22-22:5

22 And I did not see a temple in it, for the Lord God All-Powerful is its temple, and the Lamb. 23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon, that they shine on it, for the glory of God illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 And the nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. 25 And its gates will never be shut by day (for there will be no night there), 26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. 27 And every unclean thing and one who practices[a] detestable things and falsehood will never enter into it, except those who are written in the book of life of the Lamb.

Paradise Restored

22 And he showed me the river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming out from the throne of God and of the Lamb in the middle of its street, and on both sides of the river[b] is the tree of life, producing twelve fruits—yielding its fruit according to every month—and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. And there will not be any curse any longer, and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his slaves will serve[c] him, and they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will not exist any longer, and they will not have need of the light of a lamp and the light[d] of the sun, because the Lord God will give light to them, and they will reign forever and ever[e].
