Book of Common Prayer
The Lord Praised for His Goodness.
111 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
I (A)will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the (B)company of the upright and in the assembly.
2 (C)Great are the works of the Lord;
They are [c](D)studied by all who delight in them.
3 [d](E)Splendid and majestic is His work,
And (F)His righteousness endures forever.
4 He has made His [e]wonders [f]to be remembered;
The Lord is (G)gracious and compassionate.
5 He has (H)given [g]food to those who [h]fear Him;
He will (I)remember His covenant forever.
6 He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.
7 The works of His hands are [i](J)truth and justice;
All His precepts (K)are [j]sure.
8 They are (L)upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in [k](M)truth and uprightness.
9 He has sent (N)redemption to His people;
He has [l]ordained His covenant forever;
(O)Holy and [m]awesome is His name.
10 The [n](P)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A (Q)good understanding have all those who [o]do His commandments;
His (R)praise endures forever.
Prosperity of the One Who Fears the Lord.
112 [p]Praise [q]the Lord!
How (S)blessed is the man who [r]fears the Lord,
Who greatly (T)delights in His commandments.
2 His [s](U)descendants will be mighty [t]on earth;
The generation of the (V)upright will be blessed.
3 (W)Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light arises in the darkness (X)for the upright;
He is (Y)gracious and compassionate and righteous.
5 It is well with the man who (Z)is gracious and lends;
He will [u]maintain his cause in judgment.
6 For he will (AA)never be shaken;
The (AB)righteous will be [v]remembered forever.
7 He will not fear (AC)evil tidings;
His (AD)heart is steadfast, (AE)trusting in the Lord.
8 His (AF)heart is upheld, he (AG)will not fear,
Until he (AH)looks with satisfaction on his adversaries.
9 [w]He (AI)has given freely to the poor,
His righteousness endures forever;
His (AJ)horn will be exalted in honor.
32 And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of (A)Gideon, (B)Barak, (C)Samson, (D)Jephthah, of (E)David and (F)Samuel and the prophets, 33 who by faith (G)conquered kingdoms, (H)performed acts of righteousness, (I)obtained promises, (J)shut the mouths of lions, 34 (K)quenched the power of fire, (L)escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, (M)became mighty in war, (N)put foreign armies to flight. 35 (O)Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their [a]release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection; 36 and others [b]experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also (P)chains and imprisonment. 37 They were (Q)stoned, they were (R)sawn in two, [c]they were tempted, they were (S)put to death with the sword; they went about (T)in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, (U)ill-treated 38 (men of whom the world was not worthy), (V)wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes [d]in the ground.
39 And all these, having [e](W)gained approval through their faith, (X)did not receive [f]what was promised, 40 because God had [g]provided (Y)something better for us, so that (Z)apart from us they would not be made perfect.
Jesus, the Example
12 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also (AA)lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us (AB)run with (AC)endurance the race that is set before us, 2 [h]fixing our eyes on Jesus, the [i](AD)author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him (AE)endured the cross, (AF)despising the shame, and has (AG)sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
The Whole Creation Invoked to Praise the Lord.
148 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
Praise the Lord (A)from the heavens;
Praise Him (B)in the heights!
2 Praise Him, (C)all His angels;
Praise Him, (D)all His hosts!
3 Praise Him, sun and moon;
Praise Him, all stars of light!
4 Praise Him, [c](E)highest heavens,
And the (F)waters that are above the heavens!
5 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For (G)He commanded and they were created.
6 He has also (H)established them forever and ever;
He has made a (I)decree which will not pass away.
7 Praise the Lord from the earth,
(J)Sea monsters and all (K)deeps;
8 (L)Fire and hail, (M)snow and (N)clouds;
(O)Stormy wind, (P)fulfilling His word;
9 (Q)Mountains and all hills;
Fruit (R)trees and all cedars;
10 (S)Beasts and all cattle;
(T)Creeping things and winged fowl;
11 (U)Kings of the earth and all peoples;
Princes and all judges of the earth;
12 Both young men and virgins;
Old men and children.
A Psalm of Praise.
150 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
Praise God in His (A)sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty [c](B)expanse.
2 Praise Him for His (C)mighty deeds;
Praise Him according to His excellent (D)greatness.
3 Praise Him with (E)trumpet sound;
Praise Him with (F)harp and lyre.
4 Praise Him with (G)timbrel and dancing;
Praise Him with (H)stringed instruments and (I)pipe.
5 Praise Him with loud (J)cymbals;
Praise Him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let (K)everything that has breath praise [d]the Lord.
[e]Praise [f]the Lord!
The New Heaven and Earth
21 Then I saw (A)a new heaven and a new earth; for (B)the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw (C)the holy city, (D)new Jerusalem, (E)coming down out of heaven from God, (F)made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, (G)the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will [a](H)dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them[b], 4 and He will (I)wipe away every tear from their eyes; and (J)there will no longer be any death; (K)there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; (L)the first things have passed away.”
22 I saw (A)no [a]temple in it, for the (B)Lord God the Almighty and the (C)Lamb are its [b]temple. 23 And the city (D)has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for (E)the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the (F)Lamb. 24 (G)The nations will walk by its light, and the (H)kings of the earth [c]will bring their glory into it. 25 In the daytime (for (I)there will be no night there) (J)its gates (K)will never be closed; 26 and (L)they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27 and (M)nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those [d]whose names are (N)written in the Lamb’s book of life.
The River and the Tree of Life
22 Then (O)he showed me a (P)river of the (Q)water of life, [e]clear (R)as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of [f]the Lamb, 2 in the middle of (S)its street. (T)On either side of the river was (U)the tree of life, bearing twelve [g]kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 (V)There will no longer be any curse; and (W)the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will (X)serve Him; 4 they will (Y)see His face, and His (Z)name will be on their (AA)foreheads. 5 And (AB)there will no longer be any night; and they [h]will not have need (AC)of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will (AD)reign forever and ever.
