Psalm 148-150

Let All Creation Praise Yahweh

148 Praise Yah.[a]
Praise Yahweh from the heavens;
praise him in the heights.
Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his hosts.[b]
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all stars of light.
Praise him, highest heavens,[c]
and waters above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of Yahweh,
because he commanded and they were created.
And he put them in place forever and ever,
by a decree he gave that will not pass away.
Praise Yahweh from the earth—
great sea creatures and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and cloud,[d]
stormy wind doing his bidding,[e]
the mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars,
10 beasts and all cattle,[f]
creeping things and flying birds,[g]
11 kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all judges of the earth,
12 young men and young women as well,
the old together with the young—
13 let them praise the name of Yahweh,
because his name alone is is exalted.
His splendor is above earth and heavens.
14 And he has raised high a horn for his people,
praise for all his faithful—
for the children of Israel,
a people close to him.
Praise Yah.[h]

Praise to God for His Future Judgment

149 Praise Yah.[i]
Sing to Yahweh a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in its maker;
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.
Let them praise his name with dancing;
let them sing praises to him with tambourine and lyre.
For Yahweh takes pleasure in his people;
he glorifies the afflicted with salvation.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing for joy on their beds.
Let the extolling of God be in their throat,
and a double-edged sword in their hand,
to execute vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples,[j]
to bind their kings with chains
and their nobles[k] with fetters of iron,
to execute on them the judgment that is decreed.[l]
This will be honor for all his faithful ones;
Praise Yah.[m]

Let Everything Praise Yahweh

150 Praise Yah.[n]
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty firmament.
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to the abundance of his greatness.
Praise him with blast of horn;
praise him with harp and lyre.
Praise him with tambourine and dancing;
praise him with strings and flute.
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with clashing cymbals.
Every breathing thing,
let it praise Yah.[o]
Praise Yah.[p]

Psalm 114-115

Praise to God for His Works During the Exodus

114 When Israel went out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of a strange language,
Judah became his sanctuary,
Israel his dominion.
The sea looked and fled;
the Jordan turned back.
The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs.[a]
What’s with you, O sea, that you fled?
O Jordan, that you turned back?
O mountains, that you skipped like rams?
O hills, like lambs?
At the presence of the Lord writhe, O earth,[b]
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turned the rock into a pool of water,
flinty stone into a spring of water.

Dead Idols and the Living God

115 Not to us, O Yahweh, not to us,
but to your name give glory,
because of your loyal love,
because of your faithfulness.
Why should the nations say,
“Where, pray tell,[c] is their God?”
But our God is in the heavens;
all that he desires, he does.
Their idols are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.
They have mouths, but cannot speak;
they have eyes, but cannot see;
they have ears, but cannot hear;
they have noses, but cannot smell;
they have their hands, but they cannot feel,
their feet, but they cannot walk;
they cannot utter a sound in their throats.
Those who make them become like them,
as does everyone who trusts in them.
O Israel, trust Yahweh;
he is their help and their shield.
10 O house of Aaron, trust in Yahweh;
he is their help and their shield.
11 You who fear Yahweh, trust in Yahweh;
he is their help and their shield.
12 Yahweh remembers us; he will bless us.
He will bless the house of Israel;
he will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will bless those who fear Yahweh,
the small with the great.
14 May Yahweh give you increase,
you and your children.
15 May you be blessed by Yahweh,
who made heaven and earth.
16 The heavens are Yahweh’s heavens,
but the earth he has given to the children of humankind.
17 The dead do not praise Yah,[d]
nor any descending into silence.
18 It is we, we will bless Yah[e]
from now until forever.
Praise Yah![f]

Joshua 1

Joshua Addresses the Israelites

After the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, Yahweh said to Joshua son of Nun, the assistant[a] of Moses, saying, “My servant Moses is dead. Get up and cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites.[b] Every place that the soles of your feet will tread, I have given it to you, as I promised[c] to Moses. From the wilderness and the Lebanon,[d] up to the great river, the river Euphrates, all of the land of the Hittites, and up to the great sea in the west,[e] will be your territory. No one will stand before you[f] all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will not fail you, and I will not forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you will give the people this land as an inheritance that I swore to their ancestors[g] to give them. Only be strong and very courageous to observe diligently the whole law[h] that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn aside from it, to the right or left, so that you may succeed wherever you go.[i] The scroll of this law will not depart from your mouth; you will meditate on it day and night so that you may observe diligently all that is written[j] in it. For then you will succeed in your ways and prosper. Did I not command you? Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.”[k] 10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11 “Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people: ‘Prepare your provisions;[l] in[m] three days you are to cross the Jordan to go possess the land that Yahweh your God is giving you to possess.’”

12 To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said, 13 “Remember the word that Moses Yahweh’s servant commanded you, saying, ‘Yahweh your God is giving rest to you, and he is giving[n] you this land.’ 14 Your wives, your little children, and your livestock, they will remain in the land that Moses gave to you beyond the Jordan. All of the best fighting men[o] will cross armed in front of your families; they will help you 15 until Yahweh gives rest to your families as well as to you. They will take possession of the land that Yahweh your God is giving to them. Then you will return to your own land and take possession of it, the land that Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan to the east.”[p] 16 And they answered Joshua, saying, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you will send us we will go. 17 Just as we obeyed Moses, so will we obey you. Only may Yahweh your God be with you, as he was with Moses. 18 Whoever rebels against your orders[q] and does not obey your words according to what you commanded us will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous.”

Acts 21:3-15

And after we[a] sighted Cyprus and left it behind on the port side,[b] we sailed to Syria and arrived at Tyre, because the ship was to unload its[c] cargo there. And we stayed there seven days after we[d] found the disciples, who kept telling Paul through the Spirit not to set foot in Jerusalem. And it happened that when our days were over, we departed and[e] went on our way, while[f] all of them accompanied us, together with their[g] wives and children, as far as outside the city. And after[h] falling to our knees on the beach and[i] praying, we said farewell to one another and embarked in the ship, and they returned to their own homes.

And when[j] we had completed the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais. And after we[k] greeted the brothers, we stayed one day with them. And on the next day we departed and[l] came to Caesarea, and entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and[m] stayed with him. (Now this man had[n] four virgin daughters who prophesied.)

10 And while we[o] were staying there[p] many days, a certain prophet named[q] Agabus came down from Judea. 11 And he came to us and took Paul’s belt. Tying up his own feet and hands, he said, “This is what the Holy Spirit says: ‘In this way the Jews in Jerusalem will tie up the man whose belt this is, and will deliver him[r] into the hands of the Gentiles.’” 12 And when we heard these things, both we and the local residents urged him not to go up to Jerusalem. 13 Then Paul replied, “What are you doing weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be tied up, but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus!” 14 And because[s] he would not be persuaded, we remained silent, saying, “The will of the Lord be done.”

15 So after these days we got ready and[t] went up to Jerusalem.

Mark 1:21-27

21 And they went into Capernaum and immediately on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue.[a]

A Man with an Unclean Spirit Healed

22 And they were amazed at his teaching, because he was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like the scribes. 23 And so then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, 24 saying, “Leave us alone,[b] Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” 25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 26 And after[c] convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, the unclean spirit came out of him. 27 And they were all amazed, so that they began to discuss with one another, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him.”
