Book of Common Prayer
121 1 This Psalm teacheth that the faithful ought only to look for help at God, 7 who only doth maintain, preserve and prosper his Church.
A song of degrees.
1 I will lift up mine eyes [a]unto the mountains, from whence my help shall come.
2 Mine help cometh from the Lord, which hath made the [b]heaven and the earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to slip: for he that keepeth thee, will not [c]slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel, will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shadow at thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not [d]smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall keep thy soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve thy [e]going out, and thy coming in from henceforth and forever.
122 1 David rejoiceth in the name of the faithful, that God hath accomplished his promise and placed his Ark in Zion. 5 For the which he giveth thanks, 8 And prayeth for the prosperity of the Church.
A song of degrees, or Psalm of David.
1 I (A)[f]rejoiced when they said to me, We will go into the house of the Lord.
2 Our [g]feet shall stand in thy gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem is built as a city, that is [h]compact together in itself:
4 Whereunto [i]the Tribes, even the Tribes of the Lord go up according to the testimony to Israel, to praise the Name of the Lord.
5 For there are thrones set for judgment, even the thrones of the house of [j]David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: let them prosper that love thee.
7 Peace be within thy [k]walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
8 For my [l]brethren and neighbors’ sakes, I will wish thee now prosperity.
9 Because of the House of the Lord our God, I will procure thy wealth.
123 A prayer of the faithful, which were afflicted either in Babylon or under Antiochus, by the wicked worldlings and contemners of God.
A song of degrees.
1 I lift up mine eyes to thee, that dwellest in the heavens.
2 Behold, as the eyes of [m]servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress: so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until he have mercy upon us.
3 Have mercy unto us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we have [n]suffered too much contempt.
4 Our soul is filled too full of the mocking of the wealthy, and of the despitefulness of the proud.
131 1 David charged with ambition and greedy desire to reign, protesteth his humility and modesty before God, and teacheth all men what they should do.
A song of degrees, or Psalm of David.
1 Lord, [a]mine heart is not haughty, neither are mine eyes lofty, neither have I walked in great [b]matters and hid from me.
2 Surely I have behaved myself, like one weaned from his mother, and kept silence: I am in myself as one that is [c]weaned.
3 Let Israel wait on the Lord from henceforth and forever.
132 1 The faithful grounding on God’s promise made unto David, desire that he would establish the same, both as touching his posterity, and the building of the Temple, to pray there as was forspoken, Deut. 12:5.
A song of degrees.
1 Lord, remember David with all his [d]affliction,
2 Who sware unto the Lord, and vowed unto the mighty God, of Jacob, saying,
3 I [e]will not enter into the Tabernacle of mine house, nor come upon my pallet or bed,
4 Nor suffer mine eyes to sleep, nor mine eyelids to slumber,
5 Until I find out a place for the [f]Lord, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.
6 Lo, we heard of it in [g]Ephrathah, and found it in the fields of the forest.
7 We will enter into his Tabernacles, and worship before his footstool.
8 Arise, O Lord, to come into thy [h]rest, thou, and the Ark of thy strength.
9 Let thy Priests be clothed with [i]righteousness, and let thy Saints rejoice.
10 For thy [j]servant David’s sake refuse not the face of thine Anointed.
11 The Lord hath sworn in truth unto David, and he will not shrink from it, saying, Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
12 If thy sons keep my Covenant, and my testimonies, that I shall teach them, their sons also shall sit upon thy throne [k]forever.
13 For the Lord hath chosen Zion, and loved to dwell in it, saying,
14 This is my rest forever: here will I dwell, for I have a [l]delight therein.
15 I will surely bless her vittles, and will satisfy her poor with bread,
16 And will clothe her Priests with [m]salvation, and her Saints shall shout for joy.
17 There will I make the [n]horn of David to bud: for I have ordained a light for mine Anointed.
18 His enemies will I clothe with shame, but on him his crown shall flourish.
14 Thus saith the Lord, The labor [a]of Egypt, and the merchandise of Ethiopia, and of the Sabeans, men of stature shall come unto thee, and they shall be [b]thine: they shall follow thee, and shall go in chains: they shall fall down before thee, and make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee, and there is none other God besides.
15 Verily, thou O God [c]hidest thyself, O God, the Savior of Israel.
16 All they shall be ashamed and also confounded: they shall go to confusion together, that are the makers of images.
17 But Israel shall be saved in the Lord, with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.
18 For this saith the Lord (that created heaven, God himself that formed the earth, and made it: he that prepared it, he created it not in vain: he formed it to be [d]inhabited) I am the Lord, and there is none other.
19 I have not spoken in secret, neither [e]in a place of darkness in the earth: I said not in vain unto the seed of Jacob, Seek you me: I the Lord do speak righteousness, and declare righteous things.
24 Now rejoice I in my sufferings [a]for you, and fulfill the [b]rest of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for his body’s sake, which is the Church,
25 [c]Whereof I am a minister, according to the dispensation of God, which is given me unto youward, to fulfill the word of God,
26 (A)Which is the mystery hid since the world began, and from all ages, but now is made manifest to his [d]Saints,
27 To whom God [e]would make known what is the riches of his glorious mystery among the Gentiles, which riches is Christ in you, the hope of glory,
28 [f]Whom we preach, admonishing every man, and teaching every man in [g]all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
29 Whereunto I also labor and strive, according to his working which worketh in me mightily.
2 4 He condemneth, as vain, whatsoever is without Christ, 11 entreating specially of circumcision, 16 of abstinence from meats, 18 and of worshipping of Angels. 20 That we are delivered from the traditions of the Law through Christ.
1 For I [h]would ye knew what great fighting I have for your sakes, and for them of Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my [i]person in the flesh.
2 [j]That [k]their hearts might be comforted, and they knit together in love, and in all riches of the [l]full assurance of understanding, to know the mystery of God, even the Father, and of Christ:
3 In whom are hid all the treasures of [m]wisdom and knowledge.
4 [n]And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with [o]enticing words:
5 (B)For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, rejoicing and beholding your [p]order, and your [q]steadfast faith in Christ.
6 As ye have therefore [r]received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.
7 Rooted and built in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving:
12 [a]Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I (A)am that light of the world: he that followeth me, shall not walk in darkness, but shall have that light of life.
13 [b]The Pharisees therefore said unto him, [c]Thou bearest record of thyself: thy record is not true.
14 (B)Jesus answered, and said unto them, [d]Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I come, and whither I go: but ye cannot tell whence I came, and whither I go.
15 Ye judge after the flesh: I [e]judge no man.
16 And if I also judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I, and the Father, that sent me.
17 And it is also written in your Law, (C)that the testimony of two men is true.
18 [f]I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19 [g]Then said they unto him, Where is that Father of thine? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor the Father of mine. If ye had known me, ye should have known that Father of mine also.
