118 1 David rejected of Saul and of the people at the time appointed obtained the kingdom. 4 For the which he biddeth all them, that fear the Lord, to be thankful. And under his person in all this was Christ lively set forth, who should be of his people rejected.
1 Praise [a]ye the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
2 Let Israel now say, That his mercy endureth forever.
3 Let the house of Aaron now say, That his mercy endureth forever.
4 Let them that fear the Lord, now say, That his mercy endureth forever.
5 I called upon the Lord in [b]trouble, and the Lord heard me, and set me at large.
6 The Lord is with me: therefore I will not fear what [c]man can do unto me.
7 The Lord is with me among them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon mine enemies.
8 It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence [d]in man.
9 It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence in princes.
10 All nations have compassed me: but in the Name of the Lord shall I destroy them.
11 They have compassed me, yea, they have compassed me: but in the Name of the Lord I shall destroy them.
12 They came about me like bees, but they were quenched as a fire of thorns: for in the Name of the Lord I shall destroy them.
13 [e]Thou hast thrust sore at me, that I might fall: but the Lord hath helped me.
14 The Lord is my strength and [f]song: for he hath been my deliverance.
15 The [g]voice of joy and deliverance shall be in the tabernacles of the righteous, saying, The right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.
16 [h]The right hand of the Lord is exalted: the right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.
17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
18 The Lord had chastened me sore, but he hath not delivered me to death.
19 Open ye unto me the [i]gates of righteousness, that I may go into them, and praise the Lord.
20 This is the gate of the Lord: the righteous shall enter into it.
21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and hast been my deliverance.
22 (A)The stone, which the builders [j]refused, is the head of the corner.
23 This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes,
24 This is the [k]day, which the Lord hath made: let us rejoice and be glad in it.
25 [l]O Lord, I pray thee, save now: O Lord, I pray thee now give prosperity.
26 Blessed be he, that cometh in the Name of the Lord: [m]we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.
27 The Lord is mighty, and hath given us [n]light: bind the sacrifice with cords unto the horns of the altar.
28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee, even my God: therefore I will exalt thee.
29 Praise ye the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
145 This Psalm was composed when the kingdom of David flourished. 1 Wherein he describeth the wonderful providence of God, as well in governing man, as in preserving all the rest of his creatures. 17 He praiseth God for his justice and mercy. 18 But specially for his loving-kindness toward those that call upon him, that fear him, and love him: 21 For the which he promiseth to praise him forever.
A Psalm of David of praise.
1 O my God and King, [a]I will extol thee, and will bless thy Name forever and ever.
2 I will bless thee daily, and praise thy Name forever and ever.
3 [b]Great is the Lord, and most worthy to be praised, and his greatness is incomprehensible.
4 Generation shall praise thy works unto [c]generation, and declare thy power.
5 I will meditate of the beauty of thy glorious majesty, and thy wonderful works.
6 And they shall speak of the power of thy [d]dreadful acts, and I will declare thy greatness.
7 They shall break out into the mention of thy great goodness, and shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
8 (A)The Lord is gracious, and [e]merciful, slow to anger, and of great mercy.
9 The Lord is good to all, and his mercies are over all his works.
10 All thy works praise thee, O Lord, and thy Saints bless thee.
11 [f]They show the glory of thy kingdom, and speak of thy power,
12 To cause his [g]power to be known to the sons of men, and the glorious renown of his kingdom.
13 Thy (B)kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all ages.
14 The Lord upholdeth all that [h]fall, and lifteth up all that are ready to fall.
15 The eyes of [i]all wait upon thee, and thou givest them their meat in due season.
16 Thou openest thine hand, and fillest all things living of thy good pleasure.
17 The Lord is [j]righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.
18 The Lord is near unto all that call upon him, yea, to all that call upon him in [k]truth.
19 He will fulfill the [l]desire of them that fear him; he will also hear their cry, and will save them.
20 The Lord preserveth all them that love him; but he will destroy the wicked.
21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, and all [m]flesh shall bless his holy Name forever and ever.
17 7 Ahithophel’s counsel is overthrown by Hushai. 14 The Lord had so ordained. 19 The Priest’s sons are hidden in the well. 22 David goeth over Jordan. 23 Ahithophel hangeth himself. 27 They bring victuals to David.
1 Moreover, Ahithophel said to Absalom, [a]Let me choose out now twelve thousand men, and I will up and follow after David this night,
2 And I will come upon him: for he is weary, and weak handled: so I will fear him, and all the people that are with him shall flee, and I will smite the king only,
3 And I will bring again all the people unto thee, and when all shall return, ([b]the man whom thou seekest being slain) all the people shall be in peace.
4 And the saying [c]pleased Absalom well, and all the Elders of Israel.
5 Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise [d]what he saith.
6 So when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath [e]spoken thus: shall we do after his saying, or no? tell thou.
7 Hushai then answered unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given, is not [f]good at this time.
8 For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father, and his men, that they be strong men, and are chafed in mind as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: also thy father is a valiant warrior, and will not [g]lodge with the people.
9 Behold, he is hid now in some cave, or in some place: and though some of them be overthrown at the first, yet the people shall hear, and say, The people that follow Absalom, [h]be overthrown.
10 Then he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall [i]shrink and faint: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is valiant, and they which be with him, stout men.
11 Therefore my counsel is, that all Israel be gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beersheba as the sand of the Sea in number, and that thou go to battle in thine own person.
12 So shall we come upon him in some place, where we shall find him, and [j]we will upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of all the men that are with him, we will not leave him one.
13 Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all the men of Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.
14 ¶ Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite, is better, than the counsel of Ahithophel: for the Lord had [k]determined to destroy the [l]good counsel of Ahithophel, that the Lord might [m]bring evil upon Absalom.
15 Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the Priests, Of this and that manner did Ahithophel and the Elders of Israel counsel Absalom: and thus and thus have I counseled.
16 Now therefore send quickly, and show David, saying, Tarry not this night in the fields of the wilderness, but rather get thee [n]over, lest the king be devoured, and all the people that are with him.
17 ¶ Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz abode by [o]En Rogel: (for they might not be seen to come into the city) and a maid went, and [p]told them, and they went and showed king David.
18 Nevertheless, a young man saw them, and told it to Absalom. Therefore they both departed quickly, and came to a man’s house in Bahurim, who had a well in his court, into the which they went down.
19 And [q]the wife took and spread a covering over the well’s mouth, and spread ground corn thereon, that the thing should not be known.
20 And when Absalom’s servants came to the wife into the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman answered them, They be gone over the [r]brook of water. And when they had sought them, and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
21 And as soon as they were departed, the other came out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto him, Up, and get you quickly over the water: for [s]such counsel hath Ahithophel given against you.
22 Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they went over Jordan [t]until the dawning of the day, so that there lacked not one of them, that was not come over Jordan.
23 ¶ Now when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and he went home unto his city, and put his household in order, and [u]hanged himself, and died, and was buried in his father’s grave.
6 [a]Yea rather as [b]Abraham believed God, and it was (A)imputed to him for righteousness.
7 [c]Know ye therefore, that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
8 [d]For the Scripture foreseeing, that God would justify the Gentiles through faith, preached before the Gospel unto Abraham, saying, (B)[e]In thee shall all the Gentiles be [f]blessed.
9 [g]So then they which be of faith, are blessed with [h]faithful Abraham.
10 [i]For as many as are of the works of the Law, are under the curse: [j]For it is written, (C)Cursed is every man that continueth not in all things, which are written in the book of the Law, to do them.
11 [k]And that no man is justified by the Law in the sight of God, it is evident: (D)for the just shall live by faith.
12 [l]And the Law is not of faith: but (E)the man that shall do those things, shall live in them.
13 [m]Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the Law, made a curse for us, ([n]for it is written, (F)[o]Cursed is everyone that hangeth on tree.)
14 [p]That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
30 [a]I can [b]do nothing of mine own self: [c]as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just, because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father who hath sent me.
31 If I (A)should bear witness of myself, my witness were not [d]true.
32 (B)There is another that beareth witness of me, and I know that the witness, which he beareth of me, is true.
33 (C)[e]Ye sent unto John, and he bore witness unto the truth.
34 But I receive not the record of man: nevertheless these things I say, that ye might be saved.
35 He was a burning and a shining candle: and ye would for [f]a season have rejoiced in his light.
36 But I have greater witness than the witness of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father sent me.
37 And the (D)Father himself, which hath sent me, beareth witness of me. Ye have not heard his voice at any time, (E)neither have ye seen his shape.
38 And his word have you not abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believed not.
39 (F)Search the Scriptures: for in them ye think to have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me.
40 But ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
41 I receive not the praise of men.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the [g]love of God in you.
43 I am come in my Father’s Name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him will ye receive.
44 How can ye believe, which receive (G)honor one of another, and seek not the honor that cometh of God alone?
45 [h]Do not think that I will accuse you to my Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he (H)wrote of me.
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words.
