Psalm 148

Psalm 148[a]

148 Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord from the sky.
Praise him in the heavens.
Praise him, all his angels.[b]
Praise him, all his heavenly assembly.[c]
Praise him, O sun and moon.
Praise him, all you shiny stars.[d]
Praise him, O highest heaven,
and you waters above the sky.[e]
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he gave the command and they came into existence.
He established them so they would endure;[f]
he issued a decree that will not be revoked.[g]
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea creatures and all you ocean depths,
O fire and hail, snow and clouds,[h]
O stormy wind that carries out his orders,[i]
you mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars,
10 you animals and all you cattle,
you creeping things and birds,
11 you kings of the earth and all you nations,
you princes and all you leaders[j] on the earth,
12 you young men and young women,
you elderly, along with you children.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty extends over the earth and sky.
14 He has made his people victorious,[k]
and given all his loyal followers reason to praise—
the Israelites, the people who are close to him.[l]
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 150

Psalm 150[a]

150 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in the sky, which testifies to his strength![b]
Praise him for his mighty acts;
praise him for his surpassing greatness!
Praise him with the blast of the horn;
praise him with the lyre and the harp!
Praise him with the tambourine and with dancing;
praise him with stringed instruments and the flute!
Praise him with loud cymbals;
praise him with clanging cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 91-92

Psalm 91[a]

91 As for you, the one who lives[b] in the shelter of the Most High,[c]
and resides in the protective shadow[d] of the Sovereign One[e]
I say this about the Lord, my shelter and my stronghold,
my God in whom I trust—
he will certainly rescue you from the snare of the hunter[f]
and from the destructive plague.
He will shelter you[g] with his wings;[h]
you will find safety under his wings.
His faithfulness is like a shield or a protective wall.[i]
You need not fear the terrors of the night,[j]
the arrow that flies by day,
the plague that stalks in the darkness,
or the disease that ravages at noon.[k]
Though a thousand may fall beside you,
and a multitude on your right side,
it[l] will not reach you.
Certainly you will see it with your very own eyes—
you will see the wicked paid back.[m]
For you have taken refuge in the Lord,
my shelter, the Most High.
10 No harm will overtake[n] you;
no illness[o] will come near your home.[p]
11 For he will order his angels[q]
to protect you in all you do.[r]
12 They will lift you up in their hands,
so you will not slip and fall on a stone.[s]
13 You will subdue[t] a lion and a snake;[u]
you will trample underfoot a young lion and a serpent.
14 The Lord says,[v]
“Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him;
I will protect him[w] because he is loyal to me.[x]
15 When he calls out to me, I will answer him.
I will be with him when he is in trouble;
I will rescue him and bring him honor.
16 I will satisfy him with long life,[y]
and will let him see my salvation.”

Psalm 92[z]

A psalm; a song for the Sabbath day.

92 It is fitting[aa] to thank the Lord,
and to sing praises to your name, O Most High.[ab]
It is fitting[ac] to proclaim your loyal love in the morning,
and your faithfulness during the night,
to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument and a lyre,
to the accompaniment of the meditative tone of the harp.
For you, O Lord, have made me happy by your work.
I will sing for joy because of what you have done.[ad]
How great are your works, O Lord!
Your plans are very intricate![ae]
The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this;
the fool does not understand this.[af]
When the wicked sprout up like grass,
and all the evildoers glisten,[ag]
it is so that they may be annihilated.[ah]
But you, O Lord, reign[ai] forever.
Indeed,[aj] look at your enemies, O Lord.
Indeed,[ak] look at how your enemies perish.
All the evildoers are scattered.
10 You exalt my horn like that of a wild ox.[al]
I am covered[am] with fresh oil.
11 I gloat in triumph over those who tried to ambush me;[an]
I hear the defeated cries of the evil foes who attacked me.[ao]
12 The godly[ap] grow like a palm tree;
they grow high like a cedar in Lebanon.[aq]
13 Planted in the Lord’s house,
they grow in the courts of our God.
14 They bear fruit even when they are old;
they are filled with vitality and have many leaves.[ar]
15 So they proclaim that the Lord, my Protector,
is just and never unfair.[as]

Isaiah 65:13-16

13 So this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“Look, my servants will eat, but you will be hungry.
Look, my servants will drink, but you will be thirsty.
Look, my servants will rejoice, but you will be humiliated.
14 Look, my servants will shout for joy as happiness fills their hearts.[a]
But you will cry out as sorrow fills your hearts;[b]
you will wail because your spirits will be crushed.[c]
15 Your names will live on in the curse formulas of my chosen ones.[d]
The Sovereign Lord will kill you,
but he will give his servants another name.
16 Whoever pronounces a blessing in the earth[e]
will do so in the name of the faithful God;[f]
whoever makes an oath in the earth
will do so in the name of the faithful God.[g]
For past problems will be forgotten;
I will no longer think about them.[h]

Revelation 3:7-13

To the Church in Philadelphia

“To[a] the angel of the church in Philadelphia write the following:[b]

“This is the solemn pronouncement of[c] the Holy One, the True One, who holds the key of David, who opens doors[d] no one can shut, and shuts doors[e] no one can open: ‘I know your deeds. (Look! I have put[f] in front of you an open door that no one can shut.)[g] I know[h] that you have little strength,[i] but[j] you have obeyed[k] my word and have not denied my name. Listen![l] I am going to make those people from the synagogue[m] of Satan—who say they are Jews yet[n] are not, but are lying—Look, I will make[o] them come and bow down[p] at your feet and acknowledge[q] that I have loved you. 10 Because you have kept[r] my admonition[s] to endure steadfastly,[t] I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come on the whole world to test those who live on the earth. 11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have so that no one can take away[u] your crown.[v] 12 The one who conquers[w] I will make[x] a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will never depart from it. I[y] will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God (the new Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven from my God),[z] and my new name as well. 13 The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

John 6:15-27

15 Then Jesus, because he knew they were going to come and seize him by force to make him king, withdrew again up the mountainside alone.[a]

Walking on Water

16 Now when evening came, his disciples went down to the lake,[b] 17 got into a boat,[c] and started to cross the lake[d] to Capernaum.[e] (It had already become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.)[f] 18 By now a strong wind was blowing and the sea was getting rough. 19 Then, when they had rowed about three or four miles,[g] they caught sight of Jesus walking on the lake,[h] approaching the boat, and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” 21 Then they wanted to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat came to the land where they had been heading.

22 The next day the crowd that remained on the other side of the lake[i] realized that only one small boat[j] had been there, and that Jesus had not boarded[k] it with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. 23 Other boats from Tiberias came to shore[l] near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks.[m] 24 So when the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats[n] and came to Capernaum[o] looking for Jesus.

Jesus’ Discourse About the Bread of Life

25 When they found him on the other side of the lake,[p] they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”[q] 26 Jesus replied,[r] “I tell you the solemn truth,[s] you are looking for me not because you saw miraculous signs, but because you ate all the loaves of bread you wanted.[t] 27 Do not work for the food that disappears,[u] but for the food that remains to eternal life—the food[v] which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has put his seal of approval on him.”[w]
