Book of Common Prayer
God Judges with Equity
For the choir director. [a]Al-tashheth. A Psalm of Asaph. [b]A Song.
75 We (A)give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks,
For Your name is (B)near;
Men recount (C)Your wondrous deeds.
2 “For I select an (D)appointed time,
It is I who (E)judge with equity.
3 The (F)earth and all who dwell in it [c]melt;
It is I who have firmly set its (G)pillars. [d]Selah.
4 I said to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
And to the wicked, ‘(H)Do not raise up the horn;
5 Do not raise up your horn on high,
(I)Nor speak with insolent [e]pride.’”
6 For one’s rising up does not come from the east, nor from the west,
And not from the [f](J)desert;
7 But (K)God is the Judge;
He (L)puts down one and raises up another.
8 For a (M)cup is in the hand of Yahweh, and the wine foams;
It is (N)full of His mixture, and He pours from this;
Surely all the wicked of the earth must drain and (O)drink down its dregs.
9 But as for me, I will (P)declare it forever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 And all the (Q)horns of the wicked I will cut off,
But (R)the horns of the righteous will be raised up.
God’s Name Is Great in Israel
For the choir director. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.
76 God is (S)known in Judah;
His name is (T)great in Israel.
2 So His [g](U)tabernacle is in (V)Salem;
His (W)dwelling place is in Zion.
3 There He (X)broke the [h]flaming arrows,
The shield and the sword and the battle. [i]Selah.
4 You are shining,
Majestic from the mountains of prey.
5 The (Y)stouthearted were plundered,
[j]They sank into sleep;
And none of the [k]warriors could use his hands.
6 At Your (Z)rebuke, O God of Jacob,
Both (AA)chariot rider and horse slumbered into a deep sleep.
7 But You, You are [l](AB)fearsome;
And (AC)who can stand in Your presence when once [m]You are angry?
Yahweh Is My Shepherd
A Psalm of David.
23 Yahweh is my (A)shepherd,
I [a]shall (B)not want.
2 He makes me lie down in (C)green pastures;
He (D)leads me beside [b](E)quiet waters.
3 He (F)restores my soul;
He (G)guides me in the [c](H)paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Even though I (I)walk through the [d]valley of the shadow of death,
I (J)fear no [e]evil, for (K)You are with me;
Your (L)rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You (M)prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You [f]have (N)anointed my head with oil;
My (O)cup overflows.
6 [g]Surely (P)goodness and lovingkindness will [h]pursue me all the days of my life,
And I will [i](Q)dwell in the house of Yahweh [j]forever.
Yahweh Is My Light and My Salvation
Of David.
27 Yahweh is my (A)light and my (B)salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
Yahweh is the [a](C)strong defense of my life;
(D)Whom shall I dread?
2 When evildoers came upon me to (E)devour my flesh,
My adversaries and my enemies, they (F)stumbled and fell.
3 Though a (G)host encamp against me,
My heart will not fear;
Though war arise against me,
In this I (H)trust.
4 (I)One thing I have asked from Yahweh, that I shall seek:
That I may (J)dwell in the house of Yahweh all the days of my life,
To behold (K)the [b]beauty of Yahweh
And to (L)inquire in His temple.
5 For in the (M)day of calamity He will (N)conceal me in His shelter;
In the secret place of His tent He will (O)hide me;
He will (P)lift me up on a rock.
6 And now (Q)my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me,
And I will offer in His tent (R)sacrifices with loud shouts of joy;
I will (S)sing, and I will sing praises to Yahweh.
7 (T)Hear, O Yahweh, when I call with my voice,
And be gracious to me and (U)answer me.
8 On Your behalf my heart says, “(V)Seek My face,”
“Your face, O Yahweh, (W)I shall seek.”
9 (X)Do not hide Your face from me,
Do not turn Your slave away in (Y)anger;
You have been (Z)my help;
(AA)Do not abandon me and do not (AB)forsake me,
O God of my salvation!
10 [c]For my father and (AC)my mother have forsaken me,
But (AD)Yahweh will take me up.
11 (AE)Instruct me in Your way, O Yahweh,
And lead me in a (AF)level path
Because of [d]my foes.
12 Do not give me over to the [e](AG)desire of my adversaries,
For (AH)false witnesses have risen against me,
And such as (AI)breathe out violence.
13 [f]I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the (AJ)goodness of Yahweh
In the (AK)land of the living.
14 (AL)Hope in Yahweh;
Be (AM)strong and let your heart take courage;
Hope in Yahweh.
Priests and Levites
3 (A)Now these are the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when Yahweh spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai. 2 (B)These then are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the (C)anointed priests, whom he [a]ordained to minister as priests. 4 (D)But Nadab and Abihu died before Yahweh when they offered strange fire before Yahweh in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar ministered as priests [b]in the lifetime of their father Aaron.
5 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 6 “(E)Bring the tribe of Levi near and have them stand before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him. 7 And they shall keep his responsibility and the responsibility for the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to perform the (F)service of the tabernacle. 8 They shall also keep all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, along with the responsibility of the sons of Israel, to perform the service of the [c]tabernacle. 9 You shall thus (G)give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the sons of Israel. 10 So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons that (H)they may keep their priesthood, but (I)the [d]outsider who comes near shall be put to death.”
11 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “Now, behold, I (J)have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of every (K)firstborn, the first offspring of the womb among the sons of Israel. So the Levites shall be Mine. 13 For (L)all the firstborn are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am Yahweh.”
11 See with what large letters I [a]am writing to you (A)with my own hand! 12 As many as are wanting (B)to make a good showing in the flesh, these are trying to (C)compel you to be circumcised, simply so that they (D)will not be persecuted [b]for the cross of Christ. 13 For those who [c]are circumcised do not even (E)keep [d]the Law themselves, but they want to have you circumcised so that they may (F)boast in your flesh. 14 But (G)may it never be that I would boast, (H)except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, (I)through [e]which the world has been crucified to me, and (J)I to the world. 15 For (K)neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a (L)new [f]creation. 16 And those who will [g]walk in step with this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the (M)Israel of God.
17 From now on let no one cause trouble for me, for I bear on my body the (N)marks of Jesus.
18 (O)The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be (P)with your spirit, (Q)brothers. Amen.
The Transfiguration
17 And (A)six days later Jesus *brought with Him (B)Peter and James and John his brother, and *led them up on a high mountain by themselves. 2 And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, (C)I will make three [a]booths here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, (D)a voice out of the cloud said, “(E)This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!” 6 And when the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. 7 And Jesus came to them and touched them and said, “Get up, and (F)do not be afraid.” 8 And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone.
9 (G)And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “(H)Tell the vision to no one until (I)the Son of Man has (J)risen from the dead.” 10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that (K)Elijah must come first?” 11 And He answered and said, “Elijah is coming and will restore all things; 12 but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did [b]to him whatever they wished. So also (L)the Son of Man is going to suffer [c]at their hands.” 13 Then the disciples understood that He had spoken to them about John the Baptist.
