Psalm 40

40 1 David delivered from great danger doth magnify and praise the grace of God for his deliverance, and commendeth his providence toward all mankind. 5 Then doth he promise to give himself wholly to God’s service, and so declareth how God is truly worshipped. 14 Afterwards he giveth thanks and praiseth God, and having complained of his enemies, with good courage he calleth for aid and succor.

To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.

I waited [a]patiently for the Lord, and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

He brought me also out of the [b]horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon the rock, and ordered my goings.

And he hath put in my mouth [c]a new song of praise unto our God: many shall see it and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.

Blessed is the man that maketh the Lord his trust, and regardeth [d]not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

[e]O Lord my God, thou hast made thy wonderful works so many, that none can count in order to thee thy thoughts toward us: I would declare and speak of them, but they are more than I am able to express.

Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire: (for [f]mine ears hast thou prepared) burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.

[g]Then said I, Lo, I come: for in the roll of the book it is written of me.

I desired to do thy good will, O my God: yea, thy Law is within mine heart.

I have declared thy righteousness in the [h]great congregation: lo, I will not refrain my lips: O Lord, thou knowest.

10 I have not hid thy righteousness within mine heart, but I have declared thy [i]truth and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy mercy, and thy truth from the great Congregation.

11 Withdraw not thou thy tender mercy from me, O Lord, let thy mercy and thy truth always preserve me.

12 For innumerable troubles have compassed me: my sins have taken such hold upon me, that I am not able to look up: yea, they are more in number than the hairs of mine head: therefore mine heart hath [j]failed me.

13 Let it please thee, O Lord, to deliver me: make haste, O Lord, to help me.

14 Let them be [k]confounded and put to shame together, that seek my soul to destroy it: let them be driven backward and put to rebuke that desire mine hurt.

15 Let them be [l]destroyed for a reward of their shame, which say unto me, Aha, aha.

16 Let all them that seek thee, rejoice and be glad in thee, and let them that love thy salvation, say always, [m]The Lord be praised.

17 Though I be poor and needy, the Lord thinketh on me: thou art mine helper and my deliverer: my God, make no tarrying.

Psalm 54

54 1 David brought into great danger by reason of the Ziphites, 5 Calleth upon the Name of God to destroy his enemies, 6 Promising sacrifices and free offerings for so great deliverance.

To him that excelleth on Neginoth. A Psalm of David, to give instruction. When the Ziphims came and said unto Saul, (A)Is not David hid among us?

Save me, O God, [a]by thy Name, and by thy power judge me.

O God, hear my prayer: hearken unto the words of my mouth.

For [b]strangers are risen up against me, and [c]tyrants seek my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.

Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with [d]them that uphold my soul.

He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: Oh cut them off in thy [e]truth!

Then I will sacrifice [f]freely unto thee: I will praise thy Name, O Lord, because it is good.

For he hath delivered me out of all trouble, and mine eye hath [g]seen my desire upon mine enemies.

Psalm 51

51 When David was rebuked by the Prophet Nathan for his great offenses, he did not only acknowledge the same to God, with protestation of his natural corruption and iniquity, but also left a memorial thereof to his posterity. 7 Therefore first he desireth God to forgive his sins, 10 And to renew in him his holy Spirit. 13 With promise that he will not be unmindful of those great graces. 18 Finally, fearing lest God would punish the whole Church for his fault, he requireth that he would rather increase his graces toward the same.

To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David, when the Prophet Nathan [a]came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

Have mercy upon me, O God, [b]according to thy loving-kindness: according to the multitude of thy compassions put away mine iniquities.

Wash me [c]thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from mine sin.

For I [d]know mine iniquities, and my sin is ever before me.

Against thee, against thee only have I sinned, and done evil in thy sight, that thou mayest be just when thou [e]speakest, and pure when thou judgest.

Behold, I was born in iniquity, and in sin hath my mother conceived me.

Behold, thou [f]lovest truth in the inward affections: therefore hast thou taught me wisdom in the secret of mine heart.

Purge me with (A)hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Make me to hear [g]joy and gladness, that the [h]bones, which thou hast broken, may rejoice.

Hide thy face from my sins, and put away all mine iniquities.

10 [i]Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

11 Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thine holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of thy salvation, and establish me with thy [j]free Spirit.

13 Then shall I teach thy [k]ways unto the wicked, and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

14 Deliver me from [l]blood, O God, which art the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing joyfully of thy righteousness.

15 [m]Open thou my lips, O Lord, and my mouth shall show forth thy praise.

16 For thou desirest no sacrifice, though I would give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.

17 The sacrifices of God are a [n]contrite spirit: a contrite and a broken heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

18 Be favorable unto [o]Zion for thy good pleasure: build the walls of Jerusalem.

19 Then shalt thou accept the sacrifices of [p]righteousness, even the burnt offering and oblation: then shall they offer calves upon thine altar.

Exodus 34:18-35

18 The feast of (A)unleavened bread shalt thou keep: seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the (B)month of Abib: for in the month of Abib thou camest out of Egypt.

19 (C)Every male that first openeth the womb, shall be mine: also all the firstborn of thy flock shall be reckoned mine, both of beeves and sheep.

20 But the first of the ass thou shalt buy out with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then thou shalt break his neck: all the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou redeem, and none shall appear before me(D)[a]empty.

21 (E)Six days shalt thou work, and in the seventh day thou shalt rest: both in earing time, and in the harvest thou shalt rest.

22 (F)Thou shalt also observe the feast of weeks in the time of the firstfruits, of wheat harvest, and the feast of gathering fruits in [b]the end of the year.

23 (G)Thrice in a year shall all your men children appear before the Lord Jehovah God of Israel.

24 For I will cast out the nations before thee and enlarge thy coasts, so that no man shall [c]desire thy land, when thou shalt come up to appear before the Lord thy God thrice in the year.

25 (H)Thou shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven, neither shall ought of the sacrifice of the feast of Passover be left unto the morning.

26 The first ripe fruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the Lord thy God: yet shalt thou not [d]seethe a kid in his mother’s milk.

27 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of (I)these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

28 So he was there with the Lord [e]forty days and forty nights, and did neither eat bread nor drink water, and he wrote in the Tables (J)the words of the covenant, even the [f]Ten commandments.

29 ¶ So when Moses came down from mount Sinai, the two Tables of the Testimony were in Moses’ hand, as he descended from the mount: (now Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone bright, after that God had talked with him).

30 And Aaron and all the children of Israel looked upon Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone bright, and they were [g]afraid to come near him.

31 But Moses called them: and Aaron and all the chief of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.

32 And afterward all the children of Israel came near, and he charged them with all that the Lord had said unto him in mount Sinai.

33 So Moses made an end of communing with them, (K)and had put a covering upon his face.

34 But, when Moses came [h]before the Lord to speak with him, he took off the covering until he came out: then he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.

35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, how the skin of Moses’ face shone bright: therefore Moses put the covering upon his face, until he went to speak with God.

1 Thessalonians 3

1 To show his affection towards them, he sendeth Timothy unto them: 6 He is so moved by the report of their prosperous state, 9 that he cannot give sufficient thanks, 11 and therefore he breaketh out into prayer.

Wherefore since we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to remain at Athens alone,

(A)And have sent Timothy our brother and minister of God, and our labor fellow in the Gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you touching your faith,

That no man should be moved with these afflictions: [a]for ye yourselves know, that we are appointed thereunto.

For verily when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulations, even as it came to pass, and ye know it.

Even for this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent him that I might know of your faith, lest the tempter had tempted you in any sort, and that our labor had been in vain.

[b]But now lately when Timothy came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and love, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring to see us, as we also do you,

Therefore brethren, we had consolation in you, in all our affliction and necessity through your faith.

For now are we [c]alive, if ye stand fast in the Lord.

For what thanks can we recompense to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we rejoice for your sakes before our God,

10 Night and day, (B)praying exceedingly, that we might see your face, and might [d]accomplish that which is lacking in your faith?

11 Now God himself, even our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, guide our journey unto you.

12 [e]And the Lord increase you, and make you abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:

13 (C)To make your hearts stable and unblameable in holiness before God even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his Saints.

Matthew 5:27-37

27 [a]Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, (A)Thou shalt not commit adultery.

28 But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

29 (B)Wherefore if thy [b]right eye cause thee [c]to offend, pluck it out and cast it from thee: for better it is for thee, that one of thy members perish, than that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

30 Also if thy right hand make thee to offend, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for better it is for thee, that one of thy members perish, than that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

31 It hath been said also, (C)Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorcement.

32 But I say unto you, whosoever shall put away his wife (except it be for fornication) causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced, committeth adultery.

33 [d]Again, ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, (D)Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform thine oaths to the Lord.

34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all, neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God:

35 Nor yet by the earth, for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem: for it is the city of the great King.

36 Neither shalt thou swear by thine head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37 (E)But let your communication be [e]Yea, yea: Nay, nay. For whatsoever is more than these, cometh of [f]evil.
