Psalm 103

The Forgiving God

Of David.

My soul, bless the Lord,
and all that is within me, bless his holy name.(A)
My soul, bless the Lord,
and do not forget all his benefits.(B)

He forgives all your iniquity;(C)
he heals all your diseases.(D)
He redeems your life from the Pit;(E)
he crowns you with faithful love and compassion.(F)
He satisfies you[a] with good things;(G)
your youth is renewed like the eagle.(H)

The Lord executes acts of righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.(I)
He revealed his ways to Moses,(J)
his deeds to the people of Israel.(K)
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in faithful love.(L)
He will not always accuse us
or be angry forever.(M)
10 He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve
or repaid us according to our iniquities.(N)

11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his faithful love
toward those who fear him.(O)
12 As far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed
our transgressions from us.(P)
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.(Q)
14 For he knows what we are made of,
remembering that we are dust.(R)

15 As for man, his days are like grass—
he blooms like a flower of the field;(S)
16 when the wind passes over it, it vanishes,
and its place is no longer known.[b](T)
17 But from eternity to eternity
the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear him,
and his righteousness toward the grandchildren(U)
18 of those who keep his covenant,
who remember to observe his precepts.(V)
19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.(W)

20 Bless the Lord,
all his angels of great strength,
who do his word,
obedient to his command.(X)
21 Bless the Lord, all his armies,
his servants who do his will.(Y)
22 Bless the Lord, all his works
in all the places where he rules.(Z)
My soul, bless the Lord!

Psalm 111

Psalm 111

Praise for the Lord’s Works

Hallelujah![a]
I will praise the Lord with all my heart
in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.(A)
The Lord’s works are great,
studied by all who delight in them.(B)
All that he does is splendid and majestic;(C)
his righteousness endures forever.(D)
He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered.(E)
The Lord is gracious and compassionate.(F)
He has provided food for those who fear him;(G)
he remembers his covenant forever.(H)
He has shown his people the power of his works
by giving them the inheritance of the nations.(I)
The works of his hands are truth and justice;
all his instructions are trustworthy.(J)
They are established forever and ever,
enacted in truth and in uprightness.(K)
He has sent redemption to his people.(L)
He has ordained his covenant forever.
His name is holy and awe-inspiring.(M)

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;(N)
all who follow his instructions[b] have good insight.(O)
His praise endures forever.(P)

Psalm 114

Psalm 114

God’s Deliverance of Israel

When Israel came out of Egypt—
the house of Jacob from a people
who spoke a foreign language(A)
Judah became his sanctuary,
Israel, his dominion.(B)

The sea looked and fled;(C)
the Jordan turned back.(D)
The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills, like lambs.(E)
Why was it, sea, that you fled?
Jordan, that you turned back?(F)
Mountains, that you skipped like rams?
Hills, like lambs?(G)

Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,(H)
who turned the rock into a pool,
the flint into a spring.(I)

Isaiah 30:18-21

The Lord’s Mercy to Israel

18 Therefore the Lord is waiting to show you mercy,
and is rising up to show you compassion,(A)
for the Lord is a just God.
All who wait patiently for him are happy.

19 For people will live on Zion in Jerusalem. You will never weep again; he will show favor to you at the sound of your outcry; as soon as he hears, he will answer you. 20 The Lord will give you meager bread and water during oppression,(B) but your Teacher[a] will not hide any longer. Your eyes will see your Teacher, 21 and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”(C)

Acts 2:36-47

36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”(A)

Call to Repentance

37 When they heard this, they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” (B)

38 Peter replied, “Repent(C) and be baptized,(D) each of you, in the name(E) of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off,(F) as many as the Lord our God will call.” 40 With many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, “Be saved from this corrupt[a] generation!” (G) 41 So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added to them.

A Generous and Growing Church

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching,(H) to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.(I)

43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles.(J) 44 Now all the believers were together and held all things in common.(K) 45 They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts,(L) 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number[b] those who were being saved.(M)

John 14:15-31

Another Counselor Promised

15 “If you love me, you will keep[a] my commands.(A) 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor[b](B) to be with you forever. 17 He is the Spirit(C) of truth.(D) The world is unable to receive him because it doesn’t see him or know him. But you do know him, because he remains with you and will be[c] in you.(E)

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you. 19 In a little while the world will no longer see me,(F) but you will see me.(G) Because I live, you will live(H) too. 20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father,(I) you are in me, and I am in you. 21 The one who has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.(J) And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father.(K) I also will love him and will reveal myself to him.”

22 Judas(L) (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it you’re going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?” (M)

23 Jesus answered, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.(N) 24 The one who doesn’t love me will not keep my words. The word that you hear is not mine but is from the Father who sent me.(O)

25 “I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,(P) whom the Father will send(Q) in my name, will teach you all things(R) and remind you of everything I have told you.(S)

Jesus’s Gift of Peace

27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.(T) 28 You have heard me tell you, ‘I am going away(U) and I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father,(V) because the Father is greater than I.(W) 29 I have told you now before it happens(X) so that when it does happen you may believe. 30 I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of the world(Y) is coming. He has no power over me.[d](Z) 31 On the contrary, so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do as the Father commanded me.

“Get up; let’s leave this place.
