Psalm 148

Psalm 148[a]

148 Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord from the sky.
Praise him in the heavens.
Praise him, all his angels.[b]
Praise him, all his heavenly assembly.[c]
Praise him, O sun and moon.
Praise him, all you shiny stars.[d]
Praise him, O highest heaven,
and you waters above the sky.[e]
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he gave the command and they came into existence.
He established them so they would endure;[f]
he issued a decree that will not be revoked.[g]
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea creatures and all you ocean depths,
O fire and hail, snow and clouds,[h]
O stormy wind that carries out his orders,[i]
you mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars,
10 you animals and all you cattle,
you creeping things and birds,
11 you kings of the earth and all you nations,
you princes and all you leaders[j] on the earth,
12 you young men and young women,
you elderly, along with you children.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty extends over the earth and sky.
14 He has made his people victorious,[k]
and given all his loyal followers reason to praise—
the Israelites, the people who are close to him.[l]
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 150

Psalm 150[a]

150 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in the sky, which testifies to his strength![b]
Praise him for his mighty acts;
praise him for his surpassing greatness!
Praise him with the blast of the horn;
praise him with the lyre and the harp!
Praise him with the tambourine and with dancing;
praise him with stringed instruments and the flute!
Praise him with loud cymbals;
praise him with clanging cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 91-92

Psalm 91[a]

91 As for you, the one who lives[b] in the shelter of the Most High,[c]
and resides in the protective shadow[d] of the Sovereign One[e]
I say this about the Lord, my shelter and my stronghold,
my God in whom I trust—
he will certainly rescue you from the snare of the hunter[f]
and from the destructive plague.
He will shelter you[g] with his wings;[h]
you will find safety under his wings.
His faithfulness is like a shield or a protective wall.[i]
You need not fear the terrors of the night,[j]
the arrow that flies by day,
the plague that stalks in the darkness,
or the disease that ravages at noon.[k]
Though a thousand may fall beside you,
and a multitude on your right side,
it[l] will not reach you.
Certainly you will see it with your very own eyes—
you will see the wicked paid back.[m]
For you have taken refuge in the Lord,
my shelter, the Most High.
10 No harm will overtake[n] you;
no illness[o] will come near your home.[p]
11 For he will order his angels[q]
to protect you in all you do.[r]
12 They will lift you up in their hands,
so you will not slip and fall on a stone.[s]
13 You will subdue[t] a lion and a snake;[u]
you will trample underfoot a young lion and a serpent.
14 The Lord says,[v]
“Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him;
I will protect him[w] because he is loyal to me.[x]
15 When he calls out to me, I will answer him.
I will be with him when he is in trouble;
I will rescue him and bring him honor.
16 I will satisfy him with long life,[y]
and will let him see my salvation.”

Psalm 92[z]

A psalm; a song for the Sabbath day.

92 It is fitting[aa] to thank the Lord,
and to sing praises to your name, O Most High.[ab]
It is fitting[ac] to proclaim your loyal love in the morning,
and your faithfulness during the night,
to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument and a lyre,
to the accompaniment of the meditative tone of the harp.
For you, O Lord, have made me happy by your work.
I will sing for joy because of what you have done.[ad]
How great are your works, O Lord!
Your plans are very intricate![ae]
The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this;
the fool does not understand this.[af]
When the wicked sprout up like grass,
and all the evildoers glisten,[ag]
it is so that they may be annihilated.[ah]
But you, O Lord, reign[ai] forever.
Indeed,[aj] look at your enemies, O Lord.
Indeed,[ak] look at how your enemies perish.
All the evildoers are scattered.
10 You exalt my horn like that of a wild ox.[al]
I am covered[am] with fresh oil.
11 I gloat in triumph over those who tried to ambush me;[an]
I hear the defeated cries of the evil foes who attacked me.[ao]
12 The godly[ap] grow like a palm tree;
they grow high like a cedar in Lebanon.[aq]
13 Planted in the Lord’s house,
they grow in the courts of our God.
14 They bear fruit even when they are old;
they are filled with vitality and have many leaves.[ar]
15 So they proclaim that the Lord, my Protector,
is just and never unfair.[as]

Isaiah 55:3-9

Pay attention and come to me.
Listen, so you can live.[a]
Then I will make an unconditional covenantal promise to[b] you,
just like the reliable covenantal promises I made to David.[c]
Look, I made him a witness to nations,[d]
a ruler and commander of nations.”
Look, you will summon nations[e] you did not previously know;
nations[f] that did not previously know you will run to you,
because of the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel,[g]
for he bestows honor on you.
Seek the Lord while he makes himself available;[h]
call to him while he is nearby!
The wicked need to abandon their lifestyle[i]
and sinful people their plans.[j]
They should return[k] to the Lord, and he will show mercy to them,[l]
and to their God, for he will freely forgive them.[m]
“Indeed,[n] my plans[o] are not like[p] your plans,
and my deeds[q] are not like[r] your deeds,” says the Lord,
“for just as the sky[s] is higher than the earth,
so my deeds[t] are superior to[u] your deeds
and my plans[v] superior to your plans.

Colossians 3:1-17

Exhortations to Seek the Things Above

Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth, for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ (who is your[a] life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him. So put to death whatever in your nature belongs to the earth:[b] sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion,[c] evil desire, and greed which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience.[d] You also lived your lives[e] in this way at one time, when you used to live among them. But now, put off all such things[f] as anger, rage, malice, slander, abusive language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another since you have put off the old man with its practices 10 and have been clothed with the new man[g] that is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of the one who created it. 11 Here there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave[h] or free, but Christ is all and in all.

Exhortation to Unity and Love

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy,[i] kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and forgiving[j] one another, if someone happens to have[k] a complaint against anyone else. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also forgive others.[l] 14 And to all these[m] virtues[n] add[o] love, which is the perfect bond.[p] 15 Let the peace of Christ be in control in your heart (for you were in fact called as one body[q] to this peace), and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ[r] dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace[s] in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

John 14:6-14

Jesus replied,[a] “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.[b] No one comes to the Father except through me. If you have known me, you will know my Father too.[c] And from now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip said,[d] “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be content.”[e] Jesus replied,[f] “Have I been with you for so long, and you have not known[g] me, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me?[h] The words that I say to you, I do not speak on my own initiative,[i] but the Father residing in me performs[j] his miraculous deeds.[k] 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me,[l] believe because of the miraculous deeds[m] themselves. 12 I tell you the solemn truth,[n] the person who believes in me will perform[o] the miraculous deeds[p] that I am doing,[q] and will perform[r] greater deeds[s] than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name,[t] so that the Father may be glorified[u] in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
