  76. Moses Forbidden to Enter the Land

    “And I pleaded with the Lord at that time, saying,
  77. And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and rules, that you might do them in the land that you are going over to possess.
  78. Therefore you shall keep his statutes and his commandments, which I command you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for all time.”
  79. that the manslayer might flee there, anyone who kills his neighbor unintentionally, without being at enmity with him in time past; he may flee to one of these cities and save his life:

  91. And you shall go to the priest who is in office at that time and say to him, ‘I declare today to the Lord your God that I have come into the land that the Lord swore to our fathers to give us.’
  92. And Moses commanded them, “At the end of every seven years, at the set time in the year of release, at the Feast of Booths,
  93. Vengeance is mine, and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and their doom comes swiftly.’
  94. and as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Jordan, and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (now the Jordan overflows all its banks throughout the time of harvest),

  99. Joshua Renews the Covenant

    At that time Joshua built an altar to the Lord, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal,
  100. At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”
  101. But at the time of the going down of the sun, Joshua commanded, and they took them down from the trees and threw them into the cave where they had hidden themselves, and they set large stones against the mouth of the cave, which remain to this very day.
  102. And Joshua captured all these kings and their land at one time, because the Lord God of Israel fought for Israel.
  103. And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time I will give over all of them, slain, to Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.”
  104. And Joshua turned back at that time and captured Hazor and struck its king with the sword, for Hazor formerly was the head of all those kingdoms.
  105. Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.
  106. And Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction with their cities.
  107. And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.
  108. And he shall remain in that city until he has stood before the congregation for judgment, until the death of him who is high priest at the time. Then the manslayer may return to his own town and his own home, to the town from which he fled.’”
  109. The Eastern Tribes Return Home

    At that time Joshua summoned the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh,
  110. No, but we did it from fear that in time to come your children might say to our children, ‘What have you to do with the Lord, the God of Israel?
  111. but to be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we do perform the service of the Lord in his presence with our burnt offerings and sacrifices and peace offerings, so your children will not say to our children in time to come, “You have no portion in the Lord.”’
  112. And we thought, ‘If this should be said to us or to our descendants in time to come, we should say, “Behold, the copy of the altar of the Lord, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifice, but to be a witness between us and you.”’
  113. Joshua's Charge to Israel's Leaders

    A long time afterward, when the Lord had given rest to Israel from all their surrounding enemies, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years,
  114. And when they cried to the Lord, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians and made the sea come upon them and cover them; and your eyes saw what I did in Egypt. And you lived in the wilderness a long time.
  115. And they killed at that time about 10,000 of the Moabites, all strong, able-bodied men; not a man escaped.
  116. Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time.
  117. Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.”
  118. After a time the Ammonites made war against Israel.
  119. While Israel lived in Heshbon and its villages, and in Aroer and its villages, and in all the cities that are on the banks of the Arnon, 300 years, why did you not deliver them within that time?

  122. Samson Defeats the Philistines

    After some days, at the time of wheat harvest, Samson went to visit his wife with a young goat. And he said, “I will go in to my wife in the chamber.” But her father would not allow him to go in.
  123. And Samson said to them, “This time I shall be innocent in regard to the Philistines, when I do them harm.”
  124. And Benjamin returned at that time. And they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead, but they were not enough for them.
  125. And the people of Israel departed from there at that time, every man to his tribe and family, and they went out from there every man to his inheritance.
  126. And in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, “I have asked for him from the Lord.”

  267. I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work.
  268. Be not overly wicked, neither be a fool. Why should you die before your time?
  269. Whoever keeps a command will know no evil thing, and the wise heart will know the proper time and the just way.
  270. For there is a time and a way for everything, although man's trouble lies heavy on him.
  271. Wisdom Better Than Folly

    Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

  277. In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea.
  278. Hyenas will cry in its towers, and jackals in the pleasant palaces; its time is close at hand and its days will not be prolonged.
  279. At evening time, behold, terror! Before morning, they are no more! This is the portion of those who loot us, and the lot of those who plunder us.
  280. At that time tribute will be brought to the Lord of hosts from a people tall and smooth, from a people feared near and far, a nation mighty and conquering, whose land the rivers divide, to Mount Zion, the place of the name of the Lord of hosts.

  311. Have you utterly rejected Judah? Does your soul loathe Zion? Why have you struck us down so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; for a time of healing, but behold, terror.
  312. The Lord said, “Have I not set you free for their good? Have I not pleaded for you before the enemy in the time of trouble and in the time of distress?
  313. If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it,
  314. And if at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it,
  315. Yet you, O Lord, know all their plotting to kill me. Forgive not their iniquity, nor blot out their sin from your sight. Let them be overthrown before you; deal with them in the time of your anger.
  316. All the nations shall serve him and his son and his grandson, until the time of his own land comes. Then many nations and great kings shall make him their slave.

    The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the guard:

  349. The king assigned them a daily portion of the food that the king ate, and of the wine that he drank. They were to be educated for three years, and at the end of that time they were to stand before the king.
  350. At the end of the time, when the king had commanded that they should be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
  351. They answered a second time and said, “Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show its interpretation.”
  352. The king answered and said, “I know with certainty that you are trying to gain time, because you see that the word from me is firm—
  353. And Daniel went in and requested the king to appoint him a time, that he might show the interpretation to the king.
  354. The Fiery Furnace

  357. that you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. You shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and you shall be wet with the dew of heaven, and seven periods of time shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will.
  358. And as it was commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be confirmed for you from the time that you know that Heaven rules.
  359. and you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. And you shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and seven periods of time shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will.”
  360. At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor returned to me. My counselors and my lords sought me, and I was established in my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me.

  367. Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time.
  368. And from the time that an alliance is made with him he shall act deceitfully, and he shall become strong with a small people.
  369. Without warning he shall come into the richest parts of the province, and he shall do what neither his fathers nor his fathers' fathers have done, scattering among them plunder, spoil, and goods. He shall devise plans against strongholds, but only for a time.
  370. And as for the two kings, their hearts shall be bent on doing evil. They shall speak lies at the same table, but to no avail, for the end is yet to be at the time appointed.
  371. “At the time appointed he shall return and come into the south, but it shall not be this time as it was before.
  372. and some of the wise shall stumble, so that they may be refined, purified, and made white, until the time of the end, for it still awaits the appointed time.
  373. “At the time of the end, the king of the south shall attack him, but the king of the north shall rush upon him like a whirlwind, with chariots and horsemen, and with many ships. And he shall come into countries and shall overflow and pass through.
  374. The Time of the End

    “At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book.
  375. But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
  376. And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream; he raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven and swore by him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half a time, and that when the shattering of the power of the holy people comes to an end all these things would be finished.
  377. He said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end.
  378. And from the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days.
  379. Therefore I will take back my grain in its time, and my wine in its season, and I will take away my wool and my flax, which were to cover her nakedness.
  380. And there I will give her her vineyards and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. And there she shall answer as in the days of her youth, as at the time when she came out of the land of Egypt.
  381. Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.
  382. The pangs of childbirth come for him, but he is an unwise son, for at the right time he does not present himself at the opening of the womb.
  383. The Lord Judges the Nations

    “For behold, in those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
  384. Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.
  385. Jonah Goes to Nineveh

    Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying,
  386. Therefore thus says the Lord: behold, against this family I am devising disaster, from which you cannot remove your necks, and you shall not walk haughtily, for it will be a time of disaster.

  393. The Conversion of the Nations

    “For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples to a pure speech, that all of them may call upon the name of the Lord and serve him with one accord.
  394. Behold, at that time I will deal with all your oppressors. And I will save the lame and gather the outcast, and I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth.
  395. At that time I will bring you in, at the time when I gather you together; for I will make you renowned and praised among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes,” says the Lord.

    And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them,

  415. Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
  416. He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is at hand. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’”
  417. Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”

  422. Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time

    And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him,
  423. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come.
  424. And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
  425. And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.
  426. it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,
  427. And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak until the day that these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.”

  440. Interpreting the Time

    He also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming.’ And so it happens.
  441. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
  442. Repent or Perish

    There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
  443. And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’
  444. who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”
  445. Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time

    And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.
  446. and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”
  447. When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, so that they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
  448. And he said, “See that you are not led astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and, ‘The time is at hand!’ Do not go after them.
  449. And when he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time.
  450. A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.”
  451. Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?”
  452. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”
  453. Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here.
  454. You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come.”
  455. So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”

    At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter,
  457. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.”
  458. This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
  459. He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
  460. He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
  461. The Ascension

    So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”
  462. So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
  463. whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.
  464. “But as the time of the promise drew near, which God had granted to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt
  465. At this time Moses was born; and he was beautiful in God's sight. And he was brought up for three months in his father's house,
  466. And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic.
  467. And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.”
  468. But the voice answered a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.’

    About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to the church.
  470. And after Herod searched for him and did not find him, he examined the sentries and ordered that they should be put to death. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea and spent time there.
  471. And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand.
  472. So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
  473. And they remained no little time with the disciples.
  474. And after they had spent some time, they were sent off in peace by the brothers to those who had sent them.
  475. Now all the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there would spend their time in nothing except telling or hearing something new.
  476. After spending some time there, he departed and went from one place to the next through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.
  477. About that time there arose no little disturbance concerning the Way.
  478. For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he might not have to spend time in Asia, for he was hastening to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on the day of Pentecost.
  479. And when they came to him, he said to them: “You yourselves know how I lived among you the whole time from the first day that I set foot in Asia,
  480. At the same time he hoped that money would be given him by Paul. So he sent for him often and conversed with him.
  481. They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party of our religion I have lived as a Pharisee.
  482. And Agrippa said to Paul, “In a short time would you persuade me to be a Christian?”
  483. Since much time had passed, and the voyage was now dangerous because even the Fast was already over, Paul advised them,
  484. Since they had been without food for a long time, Paul stood up among them and said, “Men, you should have listened to me and not have set sail from Crete and incurred this injury and loss.
  485. So they cast off the anchors and left them in the sea, at the same time loosening the ropes that tied the rudders. Then hoisting the foresail to the wind they made for the beach.
  486. They were waiting for him to swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw no misfortune come to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.
  487. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
  488. For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
  489. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
  490. Future Glory

    For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
  491. For this is what the promise said: “About this time next year I will return, and Sarah shall have a son.”
  492. So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.
  493. For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience,
  494. Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.
  495. Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
  496. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
  497. Was anyone at the time of his call already circumcised? Let him not seek to remove the marks of circumcision. Was anyone at the time of his call uncircumcised? Let him not seek circumcision.
  498. This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none,
  499. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.
  500. For I do not want to see you now just in passing. I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits.
