  387. Death Through Adam, Life Through Christ

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—
  388. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.
  389. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
  390. so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
  391. Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
  392. We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
  393. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.
  394. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.
  395. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
  396. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.

  403. Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good to bring about my death, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
  404. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?
  405. because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

  407. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.
  408. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
  409. As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
  410. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
  411. whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours,
  412. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

  421. The Greater Glory of the New Covenant

Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was,
  422. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
  423. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body.

  432. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
  433. Believers Who Have Died

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.
  434. but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
  435. But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
  436. Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—

  438. During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
  439. Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God,
  440. Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office;
  441. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
  442. In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it,
  443. By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.
  444. Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.
  445. They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated—

  451. If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that.
  452. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.
  453. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
  454. Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.
  455. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death.
  456. I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives.
