  176. Then Hoshea the son of Elah made a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah and struck him down and put him to death and reigned in his place, in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah.
  177. Hezekiah's Illness and Recovery

    In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover.’”

  185. He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
  186. And the Syrians fled before Israel, and David killed of the Syrians the men of 7,000 chariots and 40,000 foot soldiers, and put to death also Shophach the commander of their army.
  187. For David said, “Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and glory throughout all lands. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David provided materials in great quantity before his death.

    Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, from first to last, are they not written in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam the son of Nebat?
  190. Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was taskmaster over the forced labor, and the people of Israel stoned him to death with stones. And King Rehoboam quickly mounted his chariot to flee to Jerusalem.
  191. but that whoever would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.
  192. The Defeat and Death of Ahab

    So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.
  193. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done. For after the death of his father they were his counselors, to his undoing.
  194. He searched for Ahaziah, and he was captured while hiding in Samaria, and he was brought to Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, “He is the grandson of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart.” And the house of Ahaziah had no one able to rule the kingdom.

But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king's sons who were about to be put to death, and she put him and his nurse in a bedroom. Thus Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and wife of Jehoiada the priest, because she was a sister of Ahaziah, hid him from Athaliah, so that she did not put him to death.
  196. The Levites shall surround the king, each with his weapons in his hand. And whoever enters the house shall be put to death. Be with the king when he comes in and when he goes out.”
  197. Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains who were set over the army, saying to them, “Bring her out between the ranks, and anyone who follows her is to be put to death with the sword.” For the priest said, “Do not put her to death in the house of the Lord.”
  198. So they laid hands on her, and she went into the entrance of the horse gate of the king's house, and they put her to death there.
  199. So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet after Athaliah had been put to death with the sword.
  200. But Jehoiada grew old and full of days, and died. He was 130 years old at his death.
  201. Now after the death of Jehoiada the princes of Judah came and paid homage to the king. Then the king listened to them.
  202. But he did not put their children to death, according to what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the Lord commanded, “Fathers shall not die because of their children, nor children die because of their fathers, but each one shall die for his own sin.”
  203. Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel.
  204. From the time when he turned away from the Lord they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish. But they sent after him to Lachish and put him to death there.
  205. And King Uzziah was a leper to the day of his death, and being a leper lived in a separate house, for he was excluded from the house of the Lord. And Jotham his son was over the king's household, governing the people of the land.
  206. Hezekiah's Pride and Achievements

    In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death, and he prayed to the Lord, and he answered him and gave him a sign.
  207. And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the upper part of the tombs of the sons of David, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
  208. Amon's Reign and Death

    Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.
  209. And his servants conspired against him and put him to death in his house.

  276. God Will Swallow Up Death Forever

    O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.
  277. He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.
  278. Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement, when the overwhelming whip passes through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter”;
  279. Then your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be beaten down by it.

    In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the Lord:
  291. Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people, “This man deserves the sentence of death, because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.”
  292. Only know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and its inhabitants, for in truth the Lord sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.”
  293. Jeremiah Spared from Death

    Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”
  294. Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear the Lord and entreat the favor of the Lord, and did not the Lord relent of the disaster that he had pronounced against them? But we are about to bring great disaster upon ourselves.”
  295. And when King Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and all the officials, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death. But when Uriah heard of it, he was afraid and fled and escaped to Egypt.
  296. But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah so that he was not given over to the people to be put to death.
  297. Then the officials said to the king, “Let this man be put to death, for he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking the welfare of this people, but their harm.”
  298. Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “If I tell you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you counsel, you will not listen to me.”
  299. Then King Zedekiah swore secretly to Jeremiah, “As the Lord lives, who made our souls, I will not put you to death or deliver you into the hand of these men who seek your life.”
  300. If the officials hear that I have spoken with you and come to you and say to you, ‘Tell us what you said to the king and what the king said to you; hide nothing from us and we will not put you to death,’

  306. You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death souls who should not die and keeping alive souls who should not live, by your lying to my people, who listen to lies.
  307. Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?
  308. For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.”
  309. They shall thrust you down into the pit, and you shall die the death of the slain in the heart of the seas.
  310. You shall die the death of the uncircumcised by the hand of foreigners; for I have spoken, declares the Lord God.”
  311. All this is in order that no trees by the waters may grow to towering height or set their tops among the clouds, and that no trees that drink water may reach up to them in height. For they are all given over to death, to the world below, among the children of man, with those who go down to the pit.
  312. Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?
  313. Ephraim is stricken; their root is dried up; they shall bear no fruit. Even though they give birth, I will put their beloved children to death.

  316. and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
  317. the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.”
  318. Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death,
  319. The Death of John the Baptist

    At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus,
  320. And though he wanted to put him to death, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet.

  326. They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”
  327. “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.
  328. Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.”
  329. Now the chief priests and the whole council were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death,
  330. What is your judgment?” They answered, “He deserves death.”

    When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.

  341. And brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death.
  342. And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.”
  343. Now the chief priests and the whole council were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none.
  344. You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death.

    But while they were all marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples,

    And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.
  353. But if we say, ‘From man,’ all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.”
  354. You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death.
  355. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death, for they feared the people.
  356. Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.”
  357. Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him.
  358. A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.”
  359. Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him.

  363. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
  364. Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.”
  365. The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, ‘If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.’
  366. The Death of Lazarus

    Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
  367. But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
  368. Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep.
  369. So from that day on they made plans to put him to death.
  370. So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well,
  371. He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die.
  372. Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.”
  373. This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to show by what kind of death he was going to die.

    After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.”
  375. (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.”
  376. God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.
  377. And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree,
  378. And after Herod searched for him and did not find him, he examined the sentries and ordered that they should be put to death. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea and spent time there.
  379. The Death of Herod

    Now Herod was angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon, and they came to him with one accord, and having persuaded Blastus, the king's chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king's country for food.
  380. And though they found in him no guilt worthy of death, they asked Pilate to have him executed.
  381. I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering to prison both men and women,
  382. I found that he was being accused about questions of their law, but charged with nothing deserving death or imprisonment.
  383. If then I am a wrongdoer and have committed anything for which I deserve to die, I do not seek to escape death. But if there is nothing to their charges against me, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar.”
  384. But I found that he had done nothing deserving death. And as he himself appealed to the emperor, I decided to go ahead and send him.
  385. And I did so in Jerusalem. I not only locked up many of the saints in prison after receiving authority from the chief priests, but when they were put to death I cast my vote against them.
  386. And when they had withdrawn, they said to one another, “This man is doing nothing to deserve death or imprisonment.”
  387. When they had examined me, they wished to set me at liberty, because there was no reason for the death penalty in my case.
  388. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
  389. Death in Adam, Life in Christ

    Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
  390. Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
  391. For if, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
  392. so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
  393. Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
  394. We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

  455. Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
  456. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.
  457. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
  458. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
  459. But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
