  234. “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!”
  235. Jesus Heals Many

As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.

  243. Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning:
  244. Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.
  245. Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man

A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home.
  246. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on.
  247. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
  248. Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things?
  249. Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners

Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them.
  250. As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
  251. While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.
  252. On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
  253. Jesus Questioned About Fasting

Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”

  257. Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.
  258. Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
  259. Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
  260. Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.

  266. The Parable of the Sower

Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge.
  267. Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
  268. Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable?
  269. With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.
  270. Jesus Calms the Storm

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”

They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.

  274. When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.
  275. He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!”
  276. For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”
  277. Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.”
  278. And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
  279. The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.”
  280. When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
  281. Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.
  282. As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him.
  283. Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”
  284. So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

  287. So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him.
  288. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak,
  289. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”
  290. But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.
  291. While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
  292. Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
  293. When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly.
  294. A Prophet Without Honor

Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples.

  296. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

    Jesus Sends Out the Twelve

Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village.

King Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known. Some were saying, “John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”
  298. Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.
  299. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.
  300. Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass.
  301. Jesus Walks on the Water

Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd.
  302. As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus.
  303. That Which Defiles

The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus
  304. So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”
  305. Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this.
  306. For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)
  307. Jesus Honors a Syrophoenician Woman’s Faith

Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret.

  311. After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue.
  312. Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it.
  313. Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand

During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said,
  314. “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied.
  315. The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven.
  316. “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.”
  317. Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?

  320. Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
  321. Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.”

  325. But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
  326. The Transfiguration

After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them.
  327. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
  328. Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
  329. Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
  330. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
  331. Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected?
  332. Jesus Heals a Boy Possessed by an Impure Spirit

  334. “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
  335. So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
  336. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered.
  337. “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
  338. When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
  339. But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
  340. After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
  341. Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time

They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were,
  342. Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
  343. “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me,

  350. “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.
  351. Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
  352. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”
  353. The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!
  354. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”

  358. “We can,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with,
  359. Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.

  361. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
  362. Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.”
  363. Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
  364. “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”

  366. Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples,
  367. They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go.
  368. When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it.

  374. “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered.
  375. The Authority of Jesus Questioned

They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him.
  376. Jesus replied, “I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
  377. So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”

  381. Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” And they were amazed at him.
  382. Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
  383. The Greatest Commandment

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
  384. “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

  397. The Last Supper

  411. Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?”
  412. But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”
  413. “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
