  12. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
  13. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us set up three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
  14. The Coming of Elijah

    As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
  15. Then they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
  16. He said to them, “Elijah is indeed coming first to restore all things. How then is it written about the Son of Man, that he is to go through many sufferings and be treated with contempt?
  17. But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written about him.”
  18. When some of the bystanders heard it, they said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah.”
  19. And someone ran, filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.”
  20. With the spirit and power of Elijah he will go before him, to turn the hearts of parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
  21. But the truth is, there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months and there was a severe famine over all the land,
  22. yet Elijah was sent to none of them except to a widow at Zarephath in Sidon.
  23. by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the ancient prophets had arisen.
  24. They answered, “John the Baptist; but others, Elijah; and still others, that one of the ancient prophets has arisen.”
  25. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him.
