  1. The Great Flood

    Then the Lord said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you alone are righteous before me in this generation.
  2. God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations:
  3. God also said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you’: This is my name forever, and this my title for all generations.
  4. This day shall be a day of remembrance for you. You shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord; throughout your generations you shall observe it as a perpetual ordinance.
  5. You shall observe the festival of unleavened bread, for on this very day I brought your companies out of the land of Egypt: you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a perpetual ordinance.
  6. Moses said, “This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Let an omer of it be kept throughout your generations, in order that they may see the food with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”
  7. You shall say to the Israelites, “This shall be my holy anointing oil throughout your generations.

This city had been chosen from among all the tribes of Israel, where all the tribes of Israel should offer sacrifice and where the temple, the dwelling of God, had been consecrated and established for all generations forever.
  15. After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children, and his children’s children, four generations.
  16. You, O Lord, will protect us; you will guard us from this generation forever.
  17. Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet unborn may praise the Lord:
  18. Who has performed and done this, calling the generations from the beginning? I, the Lord, am first, and will be with the last.
  19. “But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to one another,
  20. The people of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and see, something greater than Jonah is here!
  21. The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and see, something greater than Solomon is here!
  22. Then it goes and brings along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and live there; and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So will it be also with this evil generation.”
  23. Truly I tell you, all this will come upon this generation.
  24. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.
  25. And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
