  16. So after they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you, Jesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”
  17. Pilate said to them, “Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” All of them said, “Let him be crucified!”
  18. He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah.”
  19. The Question about David’s Son

    While Jesus was teaching in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that the Messiah is the son of David?
  20. And if anyone says to you at that time, ‘Look! Here is the Messiah!’ or ‘Look! There he is!’—do not believe it.
  21. False messiahs and false prophets will appear and produce signs and omens, to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
  22. But he was silent and did not answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”
