  10. “When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison.
  11. If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too.
  12. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that.
  13. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.
  14. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
  15. Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “Lord,” the man said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.”
  16. But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.
  17. You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell the rulers and other unbelievers about me.
  18. When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time.
  19. And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved.
  20. When you are persecuted in one town, flee to the next. I tell you the truth, the Son of Man will return before you have reached all the towns of Israel.
  21. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
  22. “If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.
  23. If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.
  24. And if you are willing to accept what I say, he is Elijah, the one the prophets said would come.
  25. He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not.
