  1. However every nation continued to make gods of its own, and put them in the shrines on the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in the cities where they dwelt.
  2. So they feared the Lord, and from every class they appointed for themselves priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the shrines of the high places.

Then the king defiled the high places that were east of Jerusalem, which were on the south of the Mount of Corruption, which Solomon king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the people of Ammon.
  10. Now Josiah also took away all the shrines of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the Lord to anger; and he did to them according to all the deeds he had done in Bethel.
  11. He executed all the priests of the high places who were there, on the altars, and burned men’s bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem.
  12. Then he appointed for himself priests for the high places, for the demons, and the calf idols which he had made.

  14. He also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom was quiet under him.
  15. But the high places were not removed from Israel. Nevertheless the heart of Asa was loyal all his days.
  16. And his heart took delight in the ways of the Lord; moreover he removed the high places and wooden images from Judah.
  17. Nevertheless the high places were not taken away, for as yet the people had not directed their hearts to the God of their fathers.
  18. Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit harlotry, and led Judah astray.
  19. And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.
  20. And in every single city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked to anger the Lord God of his fathers.
  21. The Reforms of Hezekiah

    Now when all this was finished, all Israel who were present went out to the cities of Judah and broke the sacred pillars in pieces, cut down the wooden images, and threw down the high places and the altars—from all Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh—until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned to their own cities, every man to his possession.
  22. Has not the same Hezekiah taken away His high places and His altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, “You shall worship before one altar and burn incense on it”?
  23. For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; he raised up altars for the Baals, and made wooden images; and he worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.
  24. Nevertheless the people still sacrificed on the high places, but only to the Lord their God.
  25. Also his prayer and how God received his entreaty, and all his sin and trespass, and the sites where he built high places and set up wooden images and carved images, before he was humbled, indeed they are written among the sayings of Hozai.
