  1. Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy

    The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met him.
  2. Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father.
  3. “Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”
  4. The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”
  5. Jesus and Beelzebul

    Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed.

    The Jews answered him, “Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?”
  13. “I am not possessed by a demon,” said Jesus, “but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.
  14. At this they exclaimed, “Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word will never taste death.

  17. Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.”
  18. First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.
  19. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—
  20. he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
  21. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
  22. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
  23. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,
  24. No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.
  25. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.
