So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”

So Joshua fought against Amalek just as Moses had instructed him, and Moses and Aaron and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

So Joshua destroyed Amalek and his army with the sword.

The Lord said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in the book, and rehearse it in Joshua’s hearing; for I will surely wipe out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.”

So Moses set out with Joshua his attendant, and Moses went up the mountain of God.

When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “It is the sound of war in the camp!”

The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, the way a person speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his servant, Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the tent.

Joshua son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his choice young men, said, “My lord Moses, stop them!”

These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to investigate the land. And Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.

And Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, two of those who had investigated the land, tore their garments.

You will by no means enter into the land where I swore to settle you. The only exceptions are Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

But Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among the men who went to investigate the land, lived.

For the Lord had said of them, “They will surely die in the wilderness.” And there was not left a single man of them, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

The Lord replied to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him;
-
So Moses did as the Lord commanded him; he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before the whole community.

except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the Lord wholeheartedly.’

So Moses gave orders about them to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua son of Nun, and to the heads of the families of the Israelite tribes.

“These are the names of the men who are to allocate the land to you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.
-
However, Joshua son of Nun, your assistant, will go. Encourage him, because he will enable Israel to inherit the land.
-
I also commanded Joshua at the same time, “You have seen everything the Lord your God did to these two kings; he will do the same to all the kingdoms where you are going.
-
Commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, because he will lead these people over and will enable them to inherit the land you will see.”

Succession of Moses by Joshua
Then Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel.
-
As for the Lord your God, he is about to cross over before you; he will destroy these nations before you, and you will dispossess them. As for Joshua, he is about to cross before you just as the Lord has said.

Then Moses called out to Joshua in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you will accompany these people to the land that the Lord promised to give their ancestors, and you will enable them to inherit it.

The Commissioning of Joshua
Then the Lord said to Moses, “The day of your death is near. Summon Joshua and present yourselves in the tent of meeting so that I can commission him.” So Moses and Joshua presented themselves in the tent of meeting.
