  1. One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
  2. He first *found his own brother Simon and *said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ).
  3. He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).
  4. One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, *said to Him,
  5. Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.
  6. Now He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot; for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray Him.
  7. And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him,
  8. So He *came to Simon Peter. He *said to Him, “Lord, You are washing my feet?”
  9. Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!”
  10. So Simon Peter *nodded to this disciple and *said to him, “Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking.”
  11. Jesus then *answered, “That man is the one for whom I shall dip the piece of bread and give it to him.” So when He had dipped the piece of bread, He *took and *gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.
  12. Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later.”
  13. Then Simon Peter, since he had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave’s name was Malchus.
  14. Simon Peter was following Jesus, and so was another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and he entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest,
  15. Peter’s Denial of Jesus

    Now Simon Peter was still standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You are not one of His disciples as well, are you?” He denied it, and said, “I am not.”
  16. So she *ran and *came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and *said to them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have put Him.”
  17. So Simon Peter also *came, following him, and he entered the tomb; and he *looked at the linen wrappings lying there,
  18. Simon Peter, Thomas who was called Didymus, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together.
  19. Simon Peter *said to them, “I am going fishing.” They *said to him, “We are also coming with you.” They went out and got into the boat; and that night they caught nothing.
  20. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved *said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he was stripped for work), and threw himself into the sea.
  21. So Simon Peter went up and hauled the net to land, full of large fish, 153; and although there were so many, the net was not torn.
  22. The Love Question

    Now when they had finished breakfast, Jesus *said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He *said to him, “Tend My lambs.”
  23. He *said to him again, a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He *said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”
  24. He *said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was hurt because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus *said to him, “Tend My sheep.
