  1. Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance;
  2. And the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit is being cut down and thrown into the fire.
  3. A Tree and Its Fruit

“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
  4. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they?
  5. So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.
  6. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
  7. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
  8. So then, you will know them by their fruits.
  9. Words Reveal Character

“Either assume the tree to be good as well as its fruit good, or assume the tree to be bad as well as its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.
  10. But the one sown with seed on the good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces, some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much.”
  11. And seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves alone; and He *said to it, “No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.” And at once the fig tree withered.
  12. And when the harvest time approached, he sent his slaves to the vine-growers to receive his fruit.
  13. They *said to Him, “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end and lease the vineyard to other vine-growers, who will pay him the fruit in the proper seasons.”
  14. Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruit.
  15. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it with you, new, in My Father’s kingdom.”
  16. And those are the ones sown with seed on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundred times as much.”
  17. And He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And His disciples were listening.
  18. Truly I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine again, until that day when I drink it, new, in the kingdom of God.”
  19. And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
  20. Therefore produce fruits that are consistent with repentance, and do not start saying to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children for Abraham.
  21. But indeed the axe is already being laid at the root of the trees; so every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
  22. For there is no good tree that bears bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree that bears good fruit.
  23. For each tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush.
  24. And the seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked by worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and they bring no fruit to maturity.
  25. But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word with a good and virtuous heart, and hold it firmly, and produce fruit with perseverance.
