  1. The People Complain

    Now the people became like those who complain of adversity in the ears of the Lord; and the Lord heard them and His anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some at the outskirts of the camp.
  2. Yet to this day the Lord has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear.
  3. Then the Lord said to Samuel, “Behold, I am going to do a thing in Israel, and both ears of everyone who hears about it will ring.
  4. But Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the bellowing of the oxen which I hear?”
  5. For this reason You are great, Lord God; for there is no one like You, and there is no God except You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
  6. In my distress I called upon the Lord, Yes, I called out to my God; And from His temple He heard my voice, And my cry for help came into His ears.

  14. Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive To the sound of my pleadings.
  15. They have ears, but they do not hear, Nor is there any breath at all in their mouths.
  16. Apply your heart to discipline, And your ears to words of knowledge.
  17. Make the hearts of this people insensitive, Their ears dull, And their eyes blind, So that they will not see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their hearts, And return and be healed.”
  18. And He will delight in the fear of the Lord, And He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make decisions by what His ears hear;
  19. Your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
  20. Then the eyes of those who see will not be blinded, And the ears of those who hear will listen.
  21. One who walks righteously and speaks with integrity, One who rejects unjust gain And shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; One who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed And shuts his eyes from looking at evil;
  22. You have seen many things, but you do not retain them; Your ears are open, but no one hears.
  23. ‘Now hear this, you foolish and senseless people, Who have eyes but do not see, Who have ears but do not hear.
  24. To whom shall I speak and give warning, That they may hear? Behold, their ears are closed And they cannot listen. Behold, the word of the Lord has become for them a rebuke; They take no delight in it.
  25. Now hear the word of the Lord, you women, And let your ears receive the word of His mouth; Teach your daughters wailing, And have every woman teach her neighbor a song of mourning.
