  1. Then · Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
  2. Then the devil took him into the holy city, · placed him on the pinnacle of the temple,
  3. Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and · their splendor;
  4. Then Jesus said to him, · “Away with you, Satan! For it stands written, ‘You shall worship the Lord · your God and serve him alone.’”
  5. Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and began to take care of him.

  12. And if · Satan rises against himself and is divided, he cannot stand but is coming to an end.
  13. These · are the ones on the path where the word is sown: · whenever they hear, Satan immediately comes · and carries off the word that was sown in them.
  14. But after turning and looking at · his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not thinking the thoughts of God, but those of men.”
  15. for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during · those days, so when they were completed he was hungry.
  16. The devil said · to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell · this stone to become bread.”
  17. · The devil said to him, “To you I will give · all this authority and · their glory, for to me it has been handed over, and to whomever I desire, I give it.
  18. And when he had completed every kind of temptation, the devil departed from him until a more favorable time.
  19. Those · along the path are the ones who hear—then the devil comes and takes away the word from · their heart, so that they may not believe and be saved.
  20. He said · to them, “I saw · Satan as he fell, like a bolt of lightening from the sky.
  21. And if Satan also · has been divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? · For you say that by Beelzebul I cast out · demons.
  22. And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound · for eighteen · years, be released from · this bondage on the day of the Sabbath?”
  23. Then Satan entered into Judas, the one called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve.
  24. Simon, Simon! Pay attention! · Satan has demanded permission to have all of you for himself, to sift you like · wheat,
  25. Jesus answered them, · “Did I not choose you, the twelve? Yet one of you is a devil.”
  26. You belong to your father the devil, and your will is to carry out the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and never did stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, · he is giving expression to · his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

  59. And the great dragon was thrown down, · that ancient serpent, · who is called the devil and · Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and · his angels were thrown down with him.
  60. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and all who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and · sea, for the devil has come down to you having great wrath, because he knows that he has only a short time!”
  61. · He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent · (who is the devil and · Satan), and bound him for a thousand years.
  62. · When the thousand years are finished, Satan will be released · from · his prison
  63. And the devil, the one who had deceived them, was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where both the beast and the false prophet are. · There they will suffer torment day and night for all time. ·
