  1. Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

  9. And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.
  10. And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man.
  11. I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
  12. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
  13. The Call of Abram

    Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you.
  14. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
  15. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
  16. Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
  17. Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right, or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left.”

  19. I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted.

  25. And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.
  26. And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.”
  27. I will bless her, and moreover, I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she shall become nations; kings of peoples shall come from her.”
  28. God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.
  29. As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly. He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him into a great nation.
  30. But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this time next year.”
  31. The Lord said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him.
  32. Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.”
  33. I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know.”
  34. And the Lord said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”
  35. Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And he said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”
  36. Again he spoke to him and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.”
  37. Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there.” He answered, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.”
  38. He said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.”
  39. Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.”
  40. He said to him, “Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.
  41. And I will make a nation of the son of the slave woman also, because he is your offspring.”
  42. Up! Lift up the boy, and hold him fast with your hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”
  43. And Abraham said, “I will swear.”
  44. I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies,
  45. The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father's house and from the land of my kindred, and who spoke to me and swore to me, ‘To your offspring I will give this land,’ he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.
  46. Let the young woman to whom I shall say, ‘Please let down your jar that I may drink,’ and who shall say, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels’—let her be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I shall know that you have shown steadfast love to my master.”
  47. When she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.”
  48. Then food was set before him to eat. But he said, “I will not eat until I have said what I have to say.” He said, “Speak on.”
  49. and who will say to me, “Drink, and I will draw for your camels also,” let her be the woman whom the Lord has appointed for my master's son.’
  50. She quickly let down her jar from her shoulder and said, ‘Drink, and I will give your camels drink also.’ So I drank, and she gave the camels drink also.
  51. And they called Rebekah and said to her, “Will you go with this man?” She said, “I will go.”
  52. Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and will bless you, for to you and to your offspring I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father.

  57. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

  73. He answered, “I will send you a young goat from the flock.” And she said, “If you give me a pledge, until you send it—”
  74. Bring your youngest brother to me. Then I shall know that you are not spies but honest men, and I will deliver your brother to you, and you shall trade in the land.’”
  75. Then Reuben said to his father, “Kill my two sons if I do not bring him back to you. Put him in my hands, and I will bring him back to you.”
  76. I will be a pledge of his safety. From my hand you shall require him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever.
  77. There I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come, so that you and your household, and all that you have, do not come to poverty.’
  78. and take your father and your households, and come to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you shall eat the fat of the land.’
  79. And Israel said, “It is enough; Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”
  80. Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation.
  81. I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again, and Joseph's hand shall close your eyes.”
  82. Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, “I will go up and tell Pharaoh and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father's household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.
  83. And Joseph answered, “Give your livestock, and I will give you food in exchange for your livestock, if your money is gone.”
  84. but let me lie with my fathers. Carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burying place.” He answered, “I will do as you have said.”
  85. and said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples and will give this land to your offspring after you for an everlasting possession.’
  86. Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce, and their wrath, for it is cruel! I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel.
  87. ‘My father made me swear, saying, “I am about to die: in my tomb that I hewed out for myself in the land of Canaan, there shall you bury me.” Now therefore, let me please go up and bury my father. Then I will return.’”
  88. So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.
