  17. Plans to Move the Ark to Jerusalem

    David built houses for himself in the City of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

  19. David took the shields of gold which were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

  21. War with Philistine Giants

    Then it happened at the end of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, Joab led out the army and ravaged and devastated the land of the Ammonites, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem [with Bathsheba]. Joab struck Rabbah and overthrew it.
  22. He brought out the people who were in it, and put them [to work] with saws, iron picks, and axes. David dealt in this way with all the Ammonite cities. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
  23. But the king’s word prevailed over Joab. So Joab left and went throughout all Israel and came to Jerusalem.
  24. God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; and as he was destroying it, the Lord looked, and relented concerning the catastrophe and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough; now remove your hand [of judgment].” And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
  25. Then David raised his eyes and saw the angel of the Lord standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, covered in sackcloth, fell on their faces.
