  19. But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us openly, uncondemned Romans, and have thrown us into prison. And now do they put us out secretly? No indeed! Let them come themselves and get us out.”
  20. So they went out of the prison and entered the house of Lydia; and when they had seen the brethren, they encouraged them and departed.
  21. I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women,
  22. So he took him and brought him to the commander and said, “Paul the prisoner called me to him and asked me to bring this young man to you. He has something to say to you.”
  23. When they had been there many days, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king, saying: “There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix,
  24. For it seems to me unreasonable to send a prisoner and not to specify the charges against him.”
  25. This I also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them.
