  1. The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches.

  20. He said to me, “Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the people of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually arouse my anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose!
  21. “Son of man, how is the wood of a vine different from that of a branch from any of the trees in the forest?
  22. “‘But there was another great eagle with powerful wings and full plumage. The vine now sent out its roots toward him from the plot where it was planted and stretched out its branches to him for water.
  23. On the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches.
  24. “‘Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard planted by the water; it was fruitful and full of branches because of abundant water.
  25. Its branches were strong, fit for a ruler’s scepter. It towered high above the thick foliage, conspicuous for its height and for its many branches.
