  1. When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.
  2. This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.

    Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.

    Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.”
  9. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”
  10. Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.
  11. “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
  12. The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?”
  13. Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.
  14. And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
  15. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.
  16. Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.
  17. Lydia’s Conversion in Philippi

    From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, and the next day we went on to Neapolis.
  18. From there we traveled to Philippi, a Roman colony and the leading city of that district of Macedonia. And we stayed there several days.
  19. But we sailed from Philippi after the Festival of Unleavened Bread, and five days later joined the others at Troas, where we stayed seven days.
  20. Leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven.
