  1. The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”
  2. I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock. How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine?
  3. “In vain I punished your people; they did not respond to correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets like a ravenous lion.
  4. Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent.
  5. They are all hardened rebels, going about to slander. They are bronze and iron; they all act corruptly.
  6. Therefore say to them, ‘This is the nation that has not obeyed the Lord its God or responded to correction. Truth has perished; it has vanished from their lips.
  7. Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceitfully. With their mouths they all speak cordially to their neighbors, but in their hearts they set traps for them.
  8. “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when this city will be rebuilt for me from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.
  9. The whole valley where dead bodies and ashes are thrown, and all the terraces out to the Kidron Valley on the east as far as the corner of the Horse Gate, will be holy to the Lord. The city will never again be uprooted or demolished.”
  10. No rock will be taken from you for a cornerstone, nor any stone for a foundation, for you will be desolate forever,” declares the Lord.
