  1. Nadab and Abihu, however, died before the Lord when they made an offering with unauthorized fire before him in the Desert of Sinai. They had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron.

  9. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the Lord your God.’”
  10. Isn’t it enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the Israelite community and brought you near himself to do the work at the Lord’s tabernacle and to stand before the community and minister to them?
  11. But Moses and Aaron fell facedown and cried out, “O God, the God who gives breath to all living things, will you be angry with the entire assembly when only one man sins?”
  12. they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”
  13. God came to Balaam and asked, “Who are these men with you?”

  15. But God said to Balaam, “Do not go with them. You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed.”
  16. But Balaam answered them, “Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything great or small to go beyond the command of the Lord my God.
  17. That night God came to Balaam and said, “Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you.”
  18. But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the Lord stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.
  19. “Well, I have come to you now,” Balaam replied. “But I can’t say whatever I please. I must speak only what God puts in my mouth.”
  20. God met with him, and Balaam said, “I have prepared seven altars, and on each altar I have offered a bull and a ram.”
  21. How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce those whom the Lord has not denounced?
  22. God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
  23. “No misfortune is seen in Jacob, no misery observed in Israel. The Lord their God is with them; the shout of the King is among them.
  24. God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox.
  25. There is no divination against Jacob, no evil omens against Israel. It will now be said of Jacob and of Israel, ‘See what God has done!’
