  1. This very day I will begin to put the terror and fear of you on all the nations under heaven. They will hear reports of you and will tremble and be in anguish because of you.”
  2. Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”

  4. The Lord your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little. You will not be allowed to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals will multiply around you.
  5. Yet the Lord set his affection on your ancestors and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations—as it is today.
  6. then the Lord will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you.
  7. Destroy completely all the places on the high mountains, on the hills and under every spreading tree, where the nations you are dispossessing worship their gods.
  8. The King

    When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,”
  9. This is how you are to treat all the cities that are at a distance from you and do not belong to the nations nearby.
  10. He has declared that he will set you in praise, fame and honor high above all the nations he has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.
  11. Blessings for Obedience

    If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.
  12. The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.
  13. Then the Lord will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods—gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known.
  14. All the nations will ask: “Why has the Lord done this to this land? Why this fierce, burning anger?”
  15. Prosperity After Turning to the Lord

    When all these blessings and curses I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations,
  16. then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you.
  17. When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind, he set up boundaries for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.
