    Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Savior, and of Christ Jesus, who is our hope,
  2. To Timothy, my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
  3. nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to useless speculation rather than advance the plan of God, which is by faith, so I urge you now.
  4. according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.
  5. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
  6. for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
  7. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

  14. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude;
  15. for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.
  16. But stay away from worthless stories that are typical of old women. Rather, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness;
  17. for bodily training is just slightly beneficial, but godliness is beneficial for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
  18. For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all mankind, especially of believers.
  19. but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to show proper respect for their own family and to give back compensation to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
  20. Now she who is actually a widow and has been left alone has set her hope on God, and she continues in requests and prayers night and day.
  21. I solemnly exhort you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality.
  22. Instructions to Those Who Minister

    All who are under the yoke as slaves are to regard their own masters as worthy of all honor so that the name of God and our doctrine will not be spoken against.
  23. If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness,
  24. and constant friction between people of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.
  25. But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.
