  1. And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

  12. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
  13. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
  14. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
  15. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
  16. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
  17. He hath helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
  18. As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
  19. Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
  20. And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
  21. And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
  22. And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
  23. And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
  24. And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
  25. And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.
