  1. But Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, since you do not understand the Scriptures nor the power of God.

  11. And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.
  12. And Jesus, seeing their faith, *said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
  13. “Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins except God alone?”
  14. Which is easier, to say to the paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven’; or to say, ‘Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk’?
  15. But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” —He *said to the paralyzed man,
  16. And it *happened that He was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners were dining with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many of them, and they were following Him.
  17. When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, “Why is He eating with tax collectors and sinners?”
  18. And hearing this, Jesus *said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
  19. “Truly I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons and daughters of men, and whatever blasphemies they commit;
  20. but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin” —
  21. For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
  22. “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it is better for him if a heavy millstone is hung around his neck and he is thrown into the sea.
  23. And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire.
  24. And if your foot is causing you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life without a foot, than, having your two feet, to be thrown into hell.
  25. And if your eye is causing you to sin, throw it away; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be thrown into hell,
