  1. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:

  13. Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.”
  14. And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
  15. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
  16. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.

  21. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
  22. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

  31. Temptations to Sin

    “Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes!
  32. And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire.
  33. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.
  34. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
  35. The disciples said to him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.”
  36. But he said to them, “Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given.
  37. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
  38. He said to them, “You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”
  39. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”
  40. Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?
  41. “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’
  42. And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’
  43. The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”
  44. Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
  45. But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
