Duties toward Parents

Listen to me your father, O children; act accordingly, that you may be safe.

For the Lord honors a father above his children, and he confirms a mother’s judgment over her sons.

Those who honor their father will have joy in their children, and when they pray they will be heard.

For a father’s blessing strengthens the houses of the children, but a mother’s curse uproots their foundations.

The honor of one’s father is one’s own glory, and a mother dishonored is a disgrace to her children.

The Rewards of Wisdom

Wisdom teaches her children and takes hold of those who seek her.

Do you have children? Discipline them, and make them obedient from their youth.

who place their children under her shelter and lodge under her boughs;

God’s Punishment of Sinners

Do not desire a multitude of worthless children, and do not rejoice in ungodly offspring.

Do not trust in their survival or rely on their numbers, for one can be better than a thousand, and to die childless is better than to have ungodly children.

Degenerate Children

It is a disgrace to be the father of an undisciplined son, and the birth of a daughter is a loss.

Discipline of the Tongue

Listen, my children, to instruction concerning the mouth; the one who observes it will never be caught.

For, first of all, she has disobeyed the law of the Most High; second, she has committed an offense against her husband; and third, through sexual immorality she has committed adultery and brought forth children by another man.

She herself will be brought before the assembly, and her punishment will extend to her children.

Her children will not take root, and her branches will not bear fruit.

I can think of nine whom I would call happy, and a tenth my tongue proclaims: a man who can rejoice in his children, who lives to see the downfall of his foes.

Concerning Children

He who loves his son will whip him often, so that he may rejoice at the way he turns out.

For it is better that your children should ask from you than that you should look to the hand of your children.

Listen to me, my faithful children, and blossom like a rose growing by a stream of water.

Human Wretchedness

Hard work was created for everyone, and a heavy yoke is laid on the children of Adam, from the day they come forth from their mother’s womb until the day they return to the mother of all the living.

The children of the ungodly put out few branches; they are unhealthy roots on sheer rock.

Children and the building of a city establish one’s name, but better than either is the one who finds wisdom. Cattle and orchards make one prosperous, but a blameless wife is accounted better than either.

The Fate of the Wicked

The children of sinners are abominable children, and they frequent the haunts of the ungodly.

The inheritance of the children of sinners will perish, and on their offspring will be a perpetual disgrace.

Children will blame an ungodly father, for they suffer disgrace because of him.
