  1. The priests, the Levites, the musicians, the gatekeepers and the temple servants settled in their own towns, along with some of the other people, and the rest of the Israelites settled in their towns.

  7. Furthermore, the king should know that if this city is built and its walls are restored, no more taxes, tribute or duty will be paid, and eventually the royal revenues will suffer.
  8. We inform the king that if this city is built and its walls are restored, you will be left with nothing in Trans-Euphrates.
  9. The king sent this reply: To Rehum the commanding officer, Shimshai the secretary and the rest of their associates living in Samaria and elsewhere in Trans-Euphrates: Greetings.
  10. Then the people of Israel—the priests, the Levites and the rest of the exiles—celebrated the dedication of the house of God with joy.
  11. You and your fellow Israelites may then do whatever seems best with the rest of the silver and gold, in accordance with the will of your God.
  12. So we arrived in Jerusalem, where we rested three days.
