  1. So now leave Me alone, that My anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them; and I will make of you a great nation.”

    Then God said, “Behold, I am going to make a covenant.   4. For I will drive out nations from you and enlarge your borders, and no one will covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before the Lord your God.
  5. ‘Do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these things the nations which I am driving out from you have become defiled.
  6. so that the land will not vomit you out should you defile it, as it has vomited out the nation which was there before you.
  7. Furthermore, you shall not follow the customs of the nation which I am going to drive out before you, because they did all these things; therefore I have felt disgust for them.
  8. As for your male and female slaves whom you may have—you may acquire male and female slaves from the pagan nations that are around you.
  9. You, however, I will scatter among the nations, and I will draw out a sword after you, as your land becomes desolate and your cities become ruins.
  10. Instead, you will perish among the nations, and your enemies’ land will consume you.
  11. But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, so that I might be their God. I am the Lord.’”
  12. I will strike them with plague and dispossess them, and I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they.”
  13. Now if You put this people to death all at once, then the nations who have heard of Your fame will say,
  14. For I see him from the top of the rocks, And I look at him from the hills; Behold, a people that lives in isolation, And does not consider itself to be among the nations.
  15. God brings him out of Egypt, He is for him like the horns of the wild ox. He will devour the nations who are his adversaries, And will crush their bones, And smash them with his arrows.
  16. And he looked at Amalek and took up his discourse and said, “Amalek was the first of the nations, But his end shall be destruction.”
  17. So keep and do them, for that is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’
  18. For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as is the Lord our God whenever we call on Him?
  19. Or what great nation is there that has statutes and judgments as righteous as this whole Law which I am setting before you today?
  20. The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the Lord drives you.
  21. Or has a god ventured to go to take for himself a nation from within another nation by trials, by signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand, by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, just as the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
  22. driving out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in and to give you their land as an inheritance, as it is today.
  23. Warnings

    “When the Lord your God brings you into the land where you are entering to take possession of it, and He drives away many nations from before you, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you,
  24. “If you say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?’
  25. And the Lord your God will drive away these nations from you little by little; you will not be able to put an end to them quickly, otherwise the wild animals would become too numerous for you.
