Psalm 85

Psalm 85^[a]

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

¹You, Lord, showed favor to your land;
    you restored the fortunes^(A) of Jacob.
²You forgave^(B) the iniquity^(C) of your people
    and covered all their sins.^[b]
³You set aside all your wrath^(D)
    and turned from your fierce anger.^(E)

⁴Restore^(F) us again, God our Savior,^(G)
    and put away your displeasure toward us.
⁵Will you be angry with us forever?^(H)
    Will you prolong your anger through all generations?
⁶Will you not revive^(I) us again,
    that your people may rejoice^(J) in you?
⁷Show us your unfailing love,^(K) Lord,
    and grant us your salvation.^(L)

⁸I will listen to what God the Lord says;
    he promises peace^(M) to his people, his faithful servants—
    but let them not turn to folly.^(N)
⁹Surely his salvation^(O) is near those who fear him,
    that his glory^(P) may dwell in our land.

¹⁰Love and faithfulness^(Q) meet together;
    righteousness^(R) and peace kiss each other.
¹¹Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,
    and righteousness^(S) looks down from heaven.
¹²The Lord will indeed give what is good,^(T)
    and our land will yield^(U) its harvest.
¹³Righteousness goes before him
    and prepares the way for his steps.

Exodus 3:1-12

New International Version

Moses and the Burning Bush

3 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro^(A) his father-in-law, the priest of Midian,^(B) and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb,^(C) the mountain^(D) of God. ²There the angel of the Lord^(E) appeared to him in flames of fire^(F) from within a bush.^(G) Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. ³So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”

⁴When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called^(H) to him from within the bush,^(I) “Moses! Moses!”

And Moses said, “Here I am.”^(J)

⁵“Do not come any closer,”^(K) God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”^(L) ⁶Then he said, “I am the God of your father,^[a] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.”^(M) At this, Moses hid^(N) his face, because he was afraid to look at God.^(O)

⁷The Lord said, “I have indeed seen^(P) the misery^(Q) of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned^(R) about their suffering.^(S) ⁸So I have come down^(T) to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land,^(U) a land flowing with milk and honey^(V)—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites^(W) and Jebusites.^(X) ⁹And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing^(Y) them. ¹⁰So now, go. I am sending^(Z) you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”^(AA)

¹¹But Moses said to God, “Who am I^(AB) that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

¹²And God said, “I will be with you.^(AC) And this will be the sign^(AD) to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you^[b] will worship God on this mountain.^(AE)”

Hebrews 11:23-31

New International Version

²³By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born,^(A) because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.^(B)

²⁴By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.^(C) ²⁵He chose to be mistreated^(D) along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. ²⁶He regarded disgrace^(E) for the sake of Christ^(F) as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.^(G) ²⁷By faith he left Egypt,^(H) not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. ²⁸By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that the destroyer^(I) of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.^(J)

²⁹By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.^(K)

³⁰By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days.^(L)

³¹By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.^[a]^(M)

⁸Philip^(G) said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

⁹Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.^(H) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? ¹⁰Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?^(I) The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.^(J) Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. ¹¹Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.^(K) ¹²Very truly I tell you, whoever believes^(L) in me will do the works I have been doing,^(M) and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. ¹³And I will do whatever you ask^(N) in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. ¹⁴You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
