21 Al maestro del coro. Salmo. Di Davide.
2 Signore, il re gioisce della tua potenza,
quanto esulta per la tua salvezza!
3 Hai soddisfatto il desiderio del suo cuore,
non hai respinto il voto delle sue labbra.
4 Gli vieni incontro con larghe benedizioni;
gli poni sul capo una corona di oro fino.
5 Vita ti ha chiesto, a lui l'hai concessa,
lunghi giorni in eterno, senza fine.
6 Grande è la sua gloria per la tua salvezza,
lo avvolgi di maestà e di onore;
7 lo fai oggetto di benedizione per sempre,
lo inondi di gioia dinanzi al tuo volto.
8 Perché il re confida nel Signore:
per la fedeltà dell'Altissimo non sarà mai scosso.
9 La tua mano raggiungerà ogni tuo nemico,
la tua destra raggiungerà chiunque ti odia.
10 Ne farai una fornace ardente,
nel giorno in cui ti mostrerai:
il Signore li consumerà nella sua ira,
li divorerà il fuoco.
11 Sterminerai dalla terra la loro prole,
la loro stirpe di mezzo agli uomini.
12 Perché hanno ordito contro di te il male,
hanno tramato insidie, non avranno successo.
13 Hai fatto loro voltare le spalle,
contro di essi punterai il tuo arco.
14 Alzati, Signore, in tutta la tua forza;
canteremo inni alla tua potenza.

2 «Dio mio, Dio mio, perché mi hai abbandonato?
Tu sei lontano dalla mia salvezza»:
sono le parole del mio lamento.
3 Dio mio, invoco di giorno e non rispondi,
grido di notte e non trovo riposo.
4 Eppure tu abiti la santa dimora,
tu, lode di Israele.
5 In te hanno sperato i nostri padri,
hanno sperato e tu li hai liberati;
6 a te gridarono e furono salvati,
sperando in te non rimasero delusi.
7 Ma io sono verme, non uomo,
infamia degli uomini, rifiuto del mio popolo.
8 Mi scherniscono quelli che mi vedono,
storcono le labbra, scuotono il capo:
9 «Si è affidato al Signore, lui lo scampi;
lo liberi, se è suo amico».
10 Sei tu che mi hai tratto dal grembo,
mi hai fatto riposare sul petto di mia madre.
11 Al mio nascere tu mi hai raccolto,
dal grembo di mia madre sei tu il mio Dio.
12 Da me non stare lontano,
poiché l'angoscia è vicina
e nessuno mi aiuta.
13 Mi circondano tori numerosi,
mi assediano tori di Basan.
14 Spalancano contro di me la loro bocca
come leone che sbrana e ruggisce.
15 Come acqua sono versato,
sono slogate tutte le mie ossa.
Il mio cuore è come cera,
si fonde in mezzo alle mie viscere.
16 E' arido come un coccio il mio palato,
la mia lingua si è incollata alla gola,
su polvere di morte mi hai deposto.
17 Un branco di cani mi circonda,
mi assedia una banda di malvagi;
hanno forato le mie mani e i miei piedi,
18 posso contare tutte le mie ossa.
Essi mi guardano, mi osservano:
19 si dividono le mie vesti,
sul mio vestito gettano la sorte.
20 Ma tu, Signore, non stare lontano,
mia forza, accorri in mio aiuto.
21 Scampami dalla spada,
dalle unghie del cane la mia vita.
22 Salvami dalla bocca del leone
e dalle corna dei bufali.
23 Annunzierò il tuo nome ai miei fratelli,
ti loderò in mezzo all'assemblea.
24 Lodate il Signore, voi che lo temete,
gli dia gloria la stirpe di Giacobbe,
lo tema tutta la stirpe di Israele;
25 perché egli non ha disprezzato
né sdegnato l'afflizione del misero,
non gli ha nascosto il suo volto,
ma, al suo grido d'aiuto, lo ha esaudito.
26 Sei tu la mia lode nella grande assemblea,
scioglierò i miei voti davanti ai suoi fedeli.
27 I poveri mangeranno e saranno saziati,
loderanno il Signore quanti lo cercano:
«Viva il loro cuore per sempre».
28 Ricorderanno e torneranno al Signore
tutti i confini della terra,
si prostreranno davanti a lui
tutte le famiglie dei popoli.
29 Poiché il regno è del Signore,
egli domina su tutte le nazioni.
30 A lui solo si prostreranno quanti dormono sotto terra,
davanti a lui si curveranno
quanti discendono nella polvere.
E io vivrò per lui,
31 lo servirà la mia discendenza.
Si parlerà del Signore alla generazione che viene;
32 annunzieranno la sua giustizia;
al popolo che nascerà diranno:
«Ecco l'opera del Signore!».
Il buon pastore
23 Salmo. Di Davide.
Il Signore è il mio pastore:
non manco di nulla;
2 su pascoli erbosi mi fa riposare
ad acque tranquille mi conduce.
3 Mi rinfranca, mi guida per il giusto cammino,
per amore del suo nome.
4 Se dovessi camminare in una valle oscura,
non temerei alcun male, perché tu sei con me.
Il tuo bastone e il tuo vincastro
mi danno sicurezza.
5 Davanti a me tu prepari una mensa
sotto gli occhi dei miei nemici;
cospargi di olio il mio capo.
Il mio calice trabocca.
6 Felicità e grazia mi saranno compagne
tutti i giorni della mia vita,
e abiterò nella casa del Signore
per lunghissimi anni.

Del Signore è la terra e quanto contiene,
l'universo e i suoi abitanti.
2 E' lui che l'ha fondata sui mari,
e sui fiumi l'ha stabilita.
3 Chi salirà il monte del Signore,
chi starà nel suo luogo santo?
4 Chi ha mani innocenti e cuore puro,
chi non pronunzia menzogna,
chi non giura a danno del suo prossimo.
5 Otterrà benedizione dal Signore,
giustizia da Dio sua salvezza.
6 Ecco la generazione che lo cerca,
che cerca il tuo volto, Dio di Giacobbe.
7 Sollevate, porte, i vostri frontali,
alzatevi, porte antiche,
ed entri il re della gloria.
8 Chi è questo re della gloria?
Il Signore forte e potente,
il Signore potente in battaglia.

Preghiera nel pericolo
25 Di Davide.
A te, Signore, elevo l'anima mia,
2 Dio mio, in te confido: non sia confuso!
Non trionfino su di me i miei nemici!
3 Chiunque spera in te non resti deluso,
sia confuso chi tradisce per un nulla.
4 Fammi conoscere, Signore, le tue vie,
insegnami i tuoi sentieri.
5 Guidami nella tua verità e istruiscimi,
perché sei tu il Dio della mia salvezza,
in te ho sempre sperato.
6 Ricordati, Signore, del tuo amore,
della tua fedeltà che è da sempre.
7 Non ricordare i peccati della mia giovinezza:
ricordati di me nella tua misericordia,
per la tua bontà, Signore.
8 Buono e retto è il Signore,
la via giusta addita ai peccatori;
9 guida gli umili secondo giustizia,
insegna ai poveri le sue vie.
10 Tutti i sentieri del Signore sono verità e grazia
per chi osserva il suo patto e i suoi precetti.
11 Per il tuo nome, Signore,
perdona il mio peccato anche se grande.
12 Chi è l'uomo che teme Dio?
Gli indica il cammino da seguire.
13 Egli vivrà nella ricchezza,
la sua discendenza possederà la terra.
14 Il Signore si rivela a chi lo teme,
gli fa conoscere la sua alleanza.
15 Tengo i miei occhi rivolti al Signore,
perché libera dal laccio il mio piede.
16 Volgiti a me e abbi misericordia,
perché sono solo ed infelice.
17 Allevia le angosce del mio cuore,
liberami dagli affanni.
18 Vedi la mia miseria e la mia pena
e perdona tutti i miei peccati.
19 Guarda i miei nemici: sono molti
e mi detestano con odio violento.
20 Proteggimi, dammi salvezza;
al tuo riparo io non sia deluso.
21 Mi proteggano integrità e rettitudine,
perché in te ho sperato.

2 You have granted him his heart’s desire(C)
and have not withheld the request of his lips.[b]
3 You came to greet him with rich blessings
and placed a crown of pure gold(D) on his head.(E)
4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
length of days, for ever and ever.(F)
5 Through the victories(G) you gave, his glory is great;
you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.(H)
6 Surely you have granted him unending blessings
and made him glad with the joy(I) of your presence.(J)
7 For the king trusts in the Lord;(K)
through the unfailing love(L) of the Most High(M)
he will not be shaken.(N)
8 Your hand will lay hold(O) on all your enemies;
your right hand will seize your foes.
9 When you appear for battle,
you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
and his fire will consume them.(P)
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
their posterity from mankind.(Q)
11 Though they plot evil(R) against you
and devise wicked schemes,(S) they cannot succeed.

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?(W)
Why are you so far(X) from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?(Y)
2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,(Z)
by night,(AA) but I find no rest.[d]
3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;(AB)
you are the one Israel praises.[e](AC)
4 In you our ancestors put their trust;
they trusted and you delivered them.(AD)
5 To you they cried out(AE) and were saved;
in you they trusted(AF) and were not put to shame.(AG)
6 But I am a worm(AH) and not a man,

7 All who see me mock me;(AK)

8 “He trusts in the Lord,” they say,

you made me trust(AR) in you, even at my mother’s breast.

from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

strong bulls of Bashan(AY) encircle me.
13 Roaring lions(AZ) that tear their prey(BA)
open their mouths wide(BB) against me.
14 I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint.(BC)
My heart has turned to wax;(BD)
it has melted(BE) within me.
15 My mouth[f] is dried up like a potsherd,(BF)
and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;(BG)
you lay me in the dust(BH) of death.
16 Dogs(BI) surround me,
a pack of villains encircles me;

17 All my bones are on display;

18 They divide my clothes among them

19 But you, Lord, do not be far from me.(BO)

20 Deliver me from the sword,(BS)
my precious life(BT) from the power of the dogs.(BU)
21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions;(BV)
save me from the horns of the wild oxen.(BW)
22 I will declare your name to my people;

All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!(CA)
Revere him,(CB) all you descendants of Israel!
24 For he has not despised(CC) or scorned
the suffering of the afflicted one;(CD)

but has listened to his cry for help.(CF)
25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly;(CG)
before those who fear you[h] I will fulfill my vows.(CH)
26 The poor will eat(CI) and be satisfied;
those who seek the Lord will praise him—(CJ)
may your hearts live forever!
27 All the ends of the earth(CK)
will remember and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
will bow down before him,(CL)
28 for dominion belongs to the Lord(CM)
and he rules over the nations.
29 All the rich(CN) of the earth will feast and worship;(CO)
all who go down to the dust(CP) will kneel before him—
those who cannot keep themselves alive.(CQ)
30 Posterity(CR) will serve him;
future generations(CS) will be told about the Lord.
31 They will proclaim his righteousness,(CT)
declaring to a people yet unborn:(CU)

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd,(CW) I lack nothing.(CX)
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,(CY)
3 he refreshes my soul.(CZ)
He guides me(DA) along the right paths(DB)
for his name’s sake.(DC)
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[i](DD)
I will fear no evil,(DE)
for you are with me;(DF)
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table(DG) before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;(DH)
my cup(DI) overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love(DJ) will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

Of David. A psalm.
1 The earth is the Lord’s,(DK) and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;(DL)
2 for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.(DM)
3 Who may ascend the mountain(DN) of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?(DO)
4 The one who has clean hands(DP) and a pure heart,(DQ)
who does not trust in an idol(DR)
or swear by a false god.[j]
5 They will receive blessing(DS) from the Lord
and vindication(DT) from God their Savior.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face,(DU) God of Jacob.[k][l]
7 Lift up your heads, you gates;(DV)
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King(DW) of glory(DX) may come in.(DY)
8 Who is this King of glory?

Of David.
1 In you, Lord my God,
I put my trust.(EC)
2 I trust in you;(ED)
do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3 No one who hopes in you
will ever be put to shame,(EE)
but shame will come on those
who are treacherous(EF) without cause.
4 Show me your ways, Lord,
teach me your paths.(EG)
5 Guide me in your truth(EH) and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,(EI)
and my hope is in you(EJ) all day long.
