Psalm 23

The Lord Is My Shepherd

A Psalm of David.

23 The Lord is my ^(A)shepherd; I shall not ^(B)want.
²    He makes me lie down in green ^(C)pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.^[a]
³    He ^(D)restores my soul.
He ^(E)leads me in ^(F)paths of righteousness^[b]
    for his ^(G)name's sake.

⁴Even though I ^(H)walk through the valley of ^(I)the shadow of death,^[c]
    I will ^(J)fear no evil,
for ^(K)you are with me;
    your ^(L)rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

⁵You ^(M)prepare a table before me
    in ^(N)the presence of my enemies;
you ^(O)anoint my head with oil;
    my ^(P)cup overflows.
⁶Surely^[d] goodness and mercy^[e] shall follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I shall ^(Q)dwell^[f] in the house of the Lord
    ^(R)forever.^[g]

Dorcas Restored to Life

³⁶Now there was in ^(A)Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas.^[a] She was full of ^(B)good works and acts of charity. ³⁷In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in ^(C)an upper room. ³⁸Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, ^(D)“Please come to us without delay.” ³⁹So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to ^(E)the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics^[b] and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. ⁴⁰But Peter ^(F)put them all outside, and ^(G)knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body ^(H)he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. ⁴¹And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. ⁴²And it became known throughout all Joppa, and ^(I)many believed in the Lord. ⁴³And he stayed in Joppa for many days ^(J)with one Simon, a tanner.

A Great Multitude from Every Nation

⁹After this I looked, and behold, ^(A)a great multitude that no one could number, ^(B)from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, ^(C)clothed in white robes, with ^(D)palm branches in their hands, ¹⁰and crying out with a loud voice, ^(E)“Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” ¹¹And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and ^(F)the four living creatures, and they ^(G)fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, ¹²^(H)saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

¹³Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, ^(I)clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?” ¹⁴I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of ^(J)the great tribulation. ^(K)They have washed their robes and ^(L)made them white ^(M)in the blood of the Lamb.

¹⁵“Therefore they are before the throne of God,
    and ^(N)serve him day and night in his temple;
    and he who sits on the throne ^(O)will shelter them with his presence.
¹⁶^(P)They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore;
    ^(Q)the sun shall not strike them,
    nor any scorching heat.
¹⁷For the Lamb in the midst of the throne ^(R)will be their shepherd,
    and he will guide them to springs of ^(S)living water,
and ^(T)God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

I and the Father Are One

²²At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter, ²³and Jesus was walking in the temple, ^(A)in the colonnade of Solomon. ²⁴So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are ^(B)the Christ, ^(C)tell us plainly.” ²⁵Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. ^(D)The works that I do ^(E)in my Father's name bear witness about me, ²⁶but ^(F)you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. ²⁷^(G)My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. ²⁸^(H)I give them eternal life, and ^(I)they will never perish, and ^(J)no one will snatch them out of my hand. ²⁹My Father, ^(K)who has given them to me,^[a] ^(L)is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of ^(M)the Father's hand. ³⁰^(N)I and the Father are one.”
