You have [a]hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
(A)Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.

(B)Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
(C)If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
(D)If I make my bed in [b]hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall [c]fall on me,”
Even the night shall be light about me;
12 Indeed, (E)the darkness [d]shall not hide from You,
But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

You hem me in(A) behind and before,
    and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,(B)
    too lofty(C) for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee(D) from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens,(E) you are there;
    if I make my bed(F) in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,(G)
    your right hand(H) will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
    and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark(I) to you;
    the night will shine like the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.
